Unless you can show a pattern of judges just favoring black defendants (they definitely don't), the more parsimonious and accurate conclusion is that the justice system often makes mistakes. Also this is Canada, they are usually more charitable in sentencing in general. This guy would've been convicted for 25 years hard labor in Alabama.
