They make sense but they are also shitty measures since it's so easy just to change your connecting flight which is why they don't really work very well past a few days. We should've had health checks and filtered out people at airports. They should've had easily available COVID-19 testing since February so we could've suppressed the disease with tracing. Those are the primary reasons why we now have a huge fucking recession and everybody lost their job. If we had done these 2 things, we would've had a small slowdown like South Korea did.

I.e. if you spot a sample of bacteria on a 10cm vs a 50cm agar jelly plate, and test two anti-microbals for their ability to slow growth, you wouldn't measure it by mass of the bacteria colony vs mass of the two respective agar plates. Rate of growth is the key indicator, and the US is I think now the fastest in the world for doubling time of infection is the fastest in the world. For deaths, it's one of the few curves that seems to have it's doubling time increase slightly rather than decreasing.

Theyll also figure out how to treat this more effectively and sorry, but the US & China mostly by themselves can churn out more medical equipment than we'd have needed to sterilize and ventilate the whole of India. Which we won't be doing so whatevs. Eventually by early-mid summer the US will flatten the curve. Their second wave will be effectively zero. China will, despite its best efforts, lose its strangle hold on medical manufacturing. Probably a lot of technology in general. With more testing we can easily keep this under control with limited disruption to life & industry. Itll take a couple of months to get there but we will. I'd also expect the US military to begin enforcing testing, curfews, and being largely literally repurposed as nurses.

I observe that authoritarian regimes have a history and tradition, scretching thousands of years. Surviving some of the harshest conditions and devestating event like plagues, wars and natural disasters. Exactly what tests have Democracies been put through? None. Corona may be the first one and it is nothing in comparison. You take things for granted and are oblivious to how fragile these systems are.

But there might be a stronger correlation with the ability to put boots on the ground. We don't really know yet. We do know the haphazard western approach is not working well. We can probably compensate with better disaster readiness for the next time. There will be a next time. I tend to view corona-19 as a dress rehersal for something truly awfull in the future (say with symptomless incubation, high transmissability and high mortality or dehabilitating health effects).

But new infections and deaths are stabilizing. Canadas new cases also seems to be stabilizing, suggesting quebec has begun to get the outbreak under control for now. Rest of Canada should catch up in 2-4 weeks. Canada is reporting hospitalizations at 6%, and deaths at 1%. Almost all deaths have been seniors.

The man first came to an estate in Burgstraße in Menzingen at around 9 p.m. due to smouldering disputes and kicked in the front door. He then left to come back shortly afterwards and riot loudly in front of the house. "He left again afterwards and returned to the estate in a medieval knight's armour and armed with a sword. Here he pushed the sword through the glass insert of the front door," said the police in a corresponding press release. In the process, he inflicted a cut on the hand of a 29-year-old man standing behind the door. When the notified police recognized him, he fled to a neighboring property, but was able to be stopped there by the patrol car crew. "The sword he held out to the officers at chest height was only put aside after repeated requests and the threat of the use of firearms," the story goes on. Immediate coercion then had to be used to arrest the 35-year-old. Another patrol then drove the accused to the police station. "During the trip, he then informed the officials that he had fallen ill with the Corona virus. Thereupon all necessary police measures were taken in the courtyard of the police station and a doctor was called in," the police continued. The 35-year-old was then taken to hospital. "The four officers who had contact with the accused were immediately released from duty. The health authorities were called in immediately." On Thursday morning the investigators were informed that - after a thorough medical examination - a disease of the 35-year-old from the corona virus could be ruled out due to the lack of symptoms. He has since been released from hospital. The man now faces several criminal charges.

I ain’t gonna go out and risk dying because there is a lack of ventilators and doctors. In Italy, 44 doctors has died because they treated Corona patients. In New York, one doctor has died so far. I rather be home than laying in a bed in a Corona hospital. So, I’m gonna continue to work from home even though it starts to get boring. I wanna drink coffee with my colleagues, go out and eat lunch together, and sit at the office.
