I buy bucked wood these days, and I really, really care about the moisture content. I am particular that way.

TJ rank	Tue May 19 01:55:48 2020 Sure, when you bang two sticks together if they sound hollow they are good to go. After so many you can tell by the weight. I fell, stripped, bucked, and split wood for over 20 years in what little time I had to spare. It was a good stress reliever. :) The wife and girls would drag the brush and feed the disposal fire. Glad those days are behind me for certain.

jergul rank	Tue May 19 07:16:36 2020 I remember why weight is not my preferred measure (I can gauge the weight of fish down to the nearest 10 grams, so its not that I find measuring by hand hard). A birch blight slightly predating my time. Trees, inflicted but still good to fell, buck and burn. Weight told you nothing about moisture content as it could either be wet dry rot, or dry healthy wood. Both would weigh in at about the same. Knuckle knock, not two sticks, is what I do. You forgot the transport bit. That was always the part I found to be the greatest hassle. snowscooters can be a bit finnicky pulling a full load downhill from the range.

patom rank	Tue May 19 11:32:25 2020 Never had wood heat as a kid. We had a coal furnace in the basement. Shoveled lots of snow and still do a little for fine clean up. The bulk of my snow moving is done with my pick-up with an 8' plow and a Honda 11/32 snow blower that will blow snow close to 50'. Use that for making a path for the dog to shit in ;) We're still burning wood in the fire pit that was left here by the previous owners.

In the Eyes of this beholder, it looks like a non-dystopian future. So one of those turning things (30-60% more efficient) well that is practically living on a Lunar colony :)
Habebe rank	Tue May 19 11:55:47 2020 "Honda 11/32 snow blower " In my experience Himda actually some makes some of the best small engine tools.I usually keep a push mower to get at hard to reach spots in the lawn that I dont want to weedwhack and Honda is the only push mower I'll use. Now as for weedwhacker hands down Stihl or Echo.

The automower that came with the house is a Swedish Husqvarna, so I felt compelled to buy the weedwacker and the hedgecutter from Husqvarna as well. I must support Swedish industry now. But the real reason is that according to all the tests I read, the Husqvarna i115 was the best one, so I bought the hedgecutter because it is the same battery design.

patom rank	Tue May 19 15:29:47 2020 I have a Husqvarna mower with a Honda engine. I run it dry after last use in the fall and gas it up and it starts on no more than 2 pulls in the spring. My Honda snow blower has electric start but I've never used it. Starts on one pull. I also have a John Deere riding mower D105 does the job for me. My weed whacker is some cheap thing I picked up at Walmart. I hate it in some ways but the fucking thing won't quit.
patom rank	Tue May 19 15:35:52 2020 I had chores long before I was a teen. I had a paper route at 10 delivering the Philadelphia Bulletin (now defunct) doubled my route in 6 months. While on my route I would pick up refundable bottles. I also used our push reel mower (no motor) and did about 5 lawns. These endeavors paid for a lot of movies in them glorious old theaters in down town Philly. I could go down town with $5 see a movie get some street food and come home with money still in my pocket.

Maybe therein lies the difference. SD: I did a lot of things that I didn't need to do. And yes, in the beginning I was as poor as a church mouse as the saying goes. Because of all those things I'm no longer near being that same mouse.

But I first need an idea on what to put on it and how to design it. I haven’t got that far in the thought process yet. Well, I have somewhat of an idea, but I think I need to sleep on it for a couple of days, and drink more coffee.

I don't ever remember that old (much older than I was) push reel mower cutting as easily as the one they show here. The old one I used had wooden handle and steel wheels. Got a lot of arm exercise which probably why I cold bench a lot of weight from an early age. They do give a good cut though. I believe golf courses still use them on the greens.

"To keep the grass so short on greens, special mowers are used. Golf course mowers are reel mowers, not rotary like most lawn mowers used at home. The reel spins and cuts the grass like a tight scissor cut. The cut height is set by adjusting the difference between the front and rear rollers." They aren't pushing them though like we used to do, :-).

I swore that if I take up a sport it will be with a good teacher so that I don't have to spend the rest of my time playing that sport trying to break bad habits. Like I said, my brother likes to holler at you for doing something wrong but has no clue how to tell you what the correct method of doing something is. Ergo, I guess I was turned off the first time out. I used to love to shoot pool and darts in my bar days. I was an above average bar room athlete. When I was low on funds I could usually drink for free from shooting pool and put money in my pocket.
TJ rank	Sun May 24 21:53:09 2020 It is reported that Bubba Watson never took a lesson in his life. There are also a number of pro-golfers who have technically horrible swings. Best to learn golf at a young age. My first round of golf was at the age of 38 and only managed to become a consistent bogey golfer, no lessons. Yeah, I made a good share of money playing snooker, eight ball, and 5/9 ball. Maybe you still can go into any bar or pool hall and strike up a game for money in no time like one used to be able to do. I don't know, because the need no exists as it once did. I used to work in a pool hall when i was a kid. I played for free when I wasn't working.
