Alex Kurtzman, looks like he made a lot of the recent Star Trek stuff. I wasn't impressed with Picard, but I enjoy Sir Patrick Stewart enough to have made my way through. None of the characters had relatable depth to me, but each to their own. Discovery I thought was complete horseshit, but only watched 1 episode.

Is there something else relevant about Alex Kurtzman of which I'm unaware?

Patrick Stewart is great. Honestly Id like a podcast with him and the gay guy who played Magneto (is he still alive?) They could make the new behind the actors studio now that James Lipton died.

Thank you for your input TC. I Always find your comments valuable and thought provoking. It is insane that you have not achieved even middle class success with this intellectual capacity, the world really isn’t fair.

Picard, Discovery and Strange New Worlds are all quite different shows - more different than TNG/DS9/Voyager.

I'm really enjoying Strange New Worlds - much more in the vein of the original series.

TC:

I mean different in style, tone, themes. Not just "use different characters and are set on different ships".

My favourite part of Strange New Worlds is how they made the original enterprise look dynamic and high tech while keeping some of the feel of the original set.

14 seconds in - you actually get the sense those engines are - you know - a futuristic space drive rocket thing rather than a random bit of red light on the back of the model.

I.e. somehow they look like the thing the model from TOS was supposed to represent in a way that doesn't feel hokey.

Reminds me of the grids on the plug in neutral beam injectors on JET and MAST - glowing pink with hydrogen alpha lines.

Can't find a good photo for you unfortunately - the glow discharge in pre-shot conditioning has that same colour, and the neutralising grid for the beams has the same honeycomb pattern.

Of course the heat shimmer is all wrong. You need an atmosphere for that.

Of course the PINIs are 70's tech built in the 90s - so I guess this counts as doubly retro-futurism - a 21st century extrapolation of how 90's technology could give rise the the representation of 60's aesthetics.
