Vets in rural areas spend very little time in their clinic/office and are instead usually out in a field or pasture helping to save livestock sometimes worth thousands of dollars. Why bother the vet when the end will be the same? If you have an aggressive dog you take care of it one way or another. No matter the way the result is the same. You can't put an aggressive dog up for adoption because of liability issues. I see lots of people saying she should have taken the dog to a shelter. The shelter would as obominated said keep the dog for a short period of time isolated in a cage then put it down.

You take it to the vet because doing it yourself is fucking brutal. The animal trusts its handlers, has to be pegged down on its leash and damned well knows what a gun it. I would do it again to save any animal from immediate, unbearable hardship, but people should never have owned a dog in the first place if they cannot be inconvenienced to take a dog to the vet to be put down. Speaking of the woman who virtue signaled shooting a dog in a book. Seems to me she ruined the dog in the first place.

Even if her ranch is an hour or so from the nearest Vet. in today's world rural vets actually travel to ranches in their large animal practices. It might have been an embarrassment to her that she didn't have the skill or patience to train a bird dog. Incidentally, I've been around many dogs in my life and have never once met a bird dog that was aggressive toward humans. Unless she trained it to be that way and was then stupid enough to think she could turn it on and off like an appliance.

The practicalities of killing a dog make it a very messy affair that cause the animal unneeded suffering and pain. It has nothing to do with a bleeding heart (remember what I once did for a living), and a lot to do with ethics. Minimize the suffering of any animal that is to die. For household pets, this involves using a vet in most cases (hell, whale harvesting is done under vetranarian supervision on vessels, seals are taken down on the ice at range with high powered rifles, reindeer are slaughtered very carefully with a knife jab to the heart as stress hormons destroy the meat. It is one of the reasons reindeer are rounded up in pens twice a year. To teach them being flopped over by humans is not stressful or dangerous). So I call your bleeding heart and raise you one sentimentalist virtue signaller. You, and the politician in question are not 19th century farmers. Not matter what escapist dreams might want to tell you.
