Anyone else watching it?

I've never read the books so I have no idea how lore accurate it is. I'm on episode 3. I'm enjoying it so far. It isn't amazing. It isn't bad. It's good with a nice production design and interesting characters.

Is the protagonist a fat black lesbian with red hair?
And is the antagonist an evil young white guy?
If not, i’m not watching!

That was your take on the prequel to hunger games?

Lovely visuals and similar visual language to the new films; but just feels a bit leaden.

GoT did political intrigue a lot better and with more sophistication.

That's a problem for a show that's basically entirely court intrigue.

All the plots and scheming are very very obvious and also everyone keeps explaining them.

Basically, it doesn't compare well to my current binge shows: the silo and (late to the party) for all mankind.

Not bad, just meh.

Ok that last episode was pretty good. Ruthless sacrificing of pawns to get your key pieces into position without it being quite so painfully explained.

I get the mansplaining. Lynch's Dune failed on that point. So things were wierd for those unfamiliar with the book. Caution is the better part of valour.

Waiting on the last episode until wife gets back from town. So without that context.

Explaining unfamiliar in universe concepts (like the vendetta rules, thinking machine ban) to a room full of people who would obviously know them is one thing.

Over explaining the very obvious motivations for doing a thing and why that thing advances your agenda like a Shakespearean play or a cartoon aimed at young children ... that annoys me.

First few episodes were a bit clunky.

And actually, I think it is potentially making the Lynch mistake with what the dreams are about.

Not going to please everyone. It will undoubtedly appeal to some of the new audience, but bore others who rather you pull them in with the drama, before you burden them with facts about a world they are not emotionally invested it. I'm sure there is a balance to be struck, but it is hard.

On the whole I am OK with stories having a rough start, you need to start somewhere.

Nimi,
Importantly, are there trans Bene Geserit? Because if there aren’t any this show is like totally transphobic

Exposition to explain facts about the world is fine. Not as good as when it's shown, but fine.

Explaining the actual drama, on the other hand, is normally a sign that the writers haven't provided it: like explaining the joke.
