Port is now left, starboard is now right, procedures for everything. That works, sort of, most of the time. Except when it does not. White Anglo-Saxon male still dominate the navy. You are conflating anti-hubris and a distaste for rank hypocracy with pro-russian sentiments. I immediately moved to dispell Sammy's "see, woke sucks" when the actual problem is something very different. The US navy is still dominated by little sammys. They just dont know boats too well anymore as you lost your maritime tradition. So you have a navy run on procedures instead. It works, sort of, most of the time. Except when it does not. Like I said.

One could almost be forgiven for wondering how having sea legs helps in determining whether or not to shoot SAM missiles at a friendly F/A-18.

A missile launch because certain procedural boxes had been ticked would still be subject to the better judgement of the people involved.
