Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) claimed Tuesday that Republicans “s‑‑‑ talk” President Trump at the congressional gym. “You’d be surprised, the truth really comes out in the congressional gym,” Swalwell told a TMZ reporter, who then asked for more details. “The Republicans and Democrats work out together, that’s where I see who they really are, and — it’s quite frustrating — because the s‑‑‑ that they talk about the president, and, knowing that what he’s doing is wrong,” Swalwell responded. “But you also hear the fear that they’re hearing at home, ‘Don’t speak up, don’t be the tallest poppy in the field,’ as one of them said,” he added. “Basically, protect your family, because when you go after this guy, the violence comes and the threats come.” Swalwell said in a hearing last month featuring former special counsel Jack Smith that if his House Republican colleagues had to be under oath, “they would have to tell you what they really think of Trump.” “They call him ‘crooked,’ they call him ‘cruel,’ they call him a ‘scumbag,’” Swalwell said. “I’ve heard you all say it.” Swalwell, who has built up his national profile in the last decade, is currently running to succeed California Gov.
