Ukraine will eventually lose its western territories, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with Navy servicemen.

“I am sure that sooner or later Ukraine will lose these Western lands. And what Poland belonged to, Hungary belonged to Romania, Romania. Sooner or later, not tomorrow, maybe not the day after tomorrow. Years or two, ten, fifteen [years]. But everything will historically fall into place,” he said.

The head of state called the western part of Ukraine a “gift” of Joseph Stalin’s postwar Ukraine. “Stalin to Ukraine gave these lands. He gave it within a single state. Apparently, it did not occur to him that there could be such a situation as today,” he added.

Prior to that, Putin also said that Poland “sleep and see” how they would return their western territories, which were transferred to Ukraine by the decision of Stalin after World War II.

The president said in May that the conflict in which the West is at war with Russia by the hands of Ukraine is coming to an end, but Western countries do not want to recognize it yet, since they cannot “get out of the track” of the confrontation with Russia. There, according to him, were waiting for the crushing defeat of Russia and “the collapse of statehood for several months”, but “it does not happen”.

There are heads of state that play that game harder than Putin does. How is the Greenland takeover going?

The milestone method for conditional EU membership for a post conflict Ukraine crushed by debt and IMF reform demands would amount to pretty much what Putin is outlining. It would mean the end of meaningful Ukrainian Sovereignity at least, though the stage would always be open to yipping politicians of various quality (see the baltic states for examples of noisemaking from ministates).
