Just the sort of pick I'd have expected him to make. White, male, old, and with a lot of experience, particularly in foreign relations.

RIP, he picks the master of Bushism to be VP.

Not a bad pick really. Biden's foreign policy experience is a huge plus for Obama. And his excessive whiteness will help with some as well.

Biden's age will offset Obama's youth, his foreign policy reputation will offset Obama's weakness, his whiteness will offset Obama's race, his experience will offset Obama's lack thereof. Politically, an excellent choice. Not unexpected, but excellent nonetheless.

My thoughts precisely.

You forgot Biden's gaffes will offset Obama's articulation.

I think the people might actually like someone who talks straight to them.

I was hoping that it would be Biden. This is good, Biden is one of the few Dems that doesn't take shit from Republicans. His foreign policy experience is quite valuable.

roland, who gives a shit? Seriously some people follow horserace bs too closely. Biden is a pick made for governing the country.

Actually, I'm glad for the choice as well. Though I wouldn't want Obama to win, if he does, I would feel greatly comforted knowing someone with *actual* experience has his ear. Eases my mind a bit.

"Biden is a pick made for governing the country."

A bit idealistic don't you think? Do you really believe the choice was made entirely with the American people's welfare at heart, and not Obama's campaign?

Who gives a shxt? Let's see, the election is not about who can govern the country better? It is all about image.

The election is all about image. Everything after that is about who can govern the country better.

Unfortunately.

I didn't claim otherwise. Alot of people vote on image but that doesn't mean we should decide on who to vote for based purely on image. Bush got elected two times because he won the "guy I can have a beer with" vote does that mean the past 8 years have been alright. It's time to start voting for serious people.

Who we vote for ought to be based upon government, but on the same hand we must not be fooled into thinking that the candidate who chooses his VP is of the same mind.

You need to win the election first before getting the key to the office. I hope sincerely the people do change their way after 7 years of this fiasco, but I am not certain they have learn their lesson.

"I hope sincerely the people do change their way after 7 years of this fiasco, but I am not certain they have learn their lesson."

Not certain? Ha!

The truth is the average American (think Hot Rod) is a dumbass that has learned next to NOTHING from the past seven years. Oh, people hate the Iraq war, but that's only because wars have always been difficult to sell to the American public, even with the support of the press, which Bush certainly didn't have. But the trampling of our civil liberties and the racking up of the debt continue virtually unabated in spite of the past seven years.

The VP choice is a big relief for me. I honestly thought he might choose some neo-con looney to try to get the rightwing religious nutball vote.

There IS a god.

KreeL must be on the wrong side of intelligence spectrum to even consider for a moment that Obama would pick a VP in order to steal votes from the opposition.

Independents and undecideds maybe, but to attempt to actually steal votes would be a waste of a choice.

Biden is a pick that will make the charges of too far left stick. It guarantees him the votes of those who always vote Democrat anyway. It is a pick that might help him govern. It is not a pick however much the leftist little darlings would like to think otherwise that will get him elected.

Once again Obama gets the chance to be that different sort of politician he's always talking about and opts for same ole same ole.

Biden's experience will grab some Clinton supporters who were unsure of Obama without the extra baggage of having Clinton as a VP.

Not nearly enough. And according to several interviews I heard early this morning the Clinton Groupies are even more ticked off than they were because he didn't even ask her about it. At the rate Obama is going their will be a thrid party that will destroy Obama Biden and it will be headed up by Hillary.

Hillary gains nothing from destroying the Democrats. She can just run again in 2012 or 2016.

Obviously the crazed Hillary supporters won't be happy with anyone that isn't Hillary. However, not every supporter was like that. Many were just lower to middle class people that just wanted to vote for a more experienced candidate. Biden has better credentials than almost anyone.

If you like the hard left... Polls according to the article indicate that this has done nothing to make the Clinton groupies more amenable to Obama.

Early polls mean little. And as people mentioned before VP choice is all about image. He couldn't choose Clinton because he is a "new kind of candidate". However, he had to pick someone with experience or he'd be swamped in the General Election.

Nevermind, I found one on my own. Biden is actually ranked 3rd by the National Journal. Close enough I suppose.
