What did you do as a carnie?

Well, I set up and took down the rides/games (more so rides)

During the actual carnival (the easy/fun part of the job) I ran the Duck pond and ring toss (with the "carnie call" which is that "all you need to do to win is get one ring over any bottle,$2 for a bucket, $5 for a hat, you keep the hat either way juuust for Plaaaaying, juuuust for tryyyin")

On occasion I got to DJ the "gravitron" which was fun.

I did travel with them, and I didlive in a trailer. Oh we also had to set up and take down the trailers (water, electricity etc.)
At night after the events we got to ride the rides for freee, and play the games for free, but we couldn't win any prizes.

Was your game rigged?

Somewhat, I actually got in some trouble when a guy actually won the ring toss (getting the middle gold covered ring) as it is near impossible, they are all hard to get to begin with, but people don't normally think about how much some gold paint can make it harder to get that ring on.

The duck pond (lucky duck) well, 90% obviosuly are all small prizes. But when you win the medium and especially the large prizes those ducks are discarded into a tub underneath where the players can not see them, if it is very slow though we will not always do that, and if it is really busy and we go through all of the large/med prizes we sometimes will put them back in circulation

I got this girls number once (super hot) and I did give her a tip on how to win a "big duckey", her mom (also super hot) tried to trick me about 15 minutes later, not knowing that we take them out of circulation.

Some of the games just have tricks, which if you stop and think about them are rather obvious.

For example the "shout-out game" (shoot the black/red target till all color is gone) is simple, do not shoot the center, shoot around the edges, but you have to be rather accurae, out of 200 rounds you can only waste about 30 rounds and still make it

The ring toss is 70% luck, and 30% skill, just make sure you don't bounce them off the bottles.

And the easiest way to win is to get a hot girl that does more than flirt. That is a winner every time. Some locations suck though, with the avg. age being 13-15, so no tail available, others are great, Fright fest was mostly college chicks.

"why do you all have such small hands?"

Can't say I ever noticed that, it was quite a "motley crew", one guy looked like Lurch.

Why do you all look like you've been gradiently air brushed with oil and dirt.

"Why do you all look like you've been gradiently air brushed with oil and dirt. "

Well, most of the group I was in was clean, but some were not....keep in mind that some carnies are known as "green help" and only work games/rides, while others set up and then run the stands, although we were all given adequate time to change/shower etc.

Neither, Nachos were ok though

What was the aggregate tooth count on your crew?

Over or under 16?

I'd say over, most of the workers(green help especially) were young, several very hot.

When you get into the older group things change.

Were clowns ever involved?

Old carnies are indeed creepy....

The younger ones were usually just making a few dollars on the side, rather normal people. That changes ALOT with those who stay there all year round.

There was an old magician for the younger kids, but he mostly came on bussiness days (certain companies would buy out the carnival for the day, GE for example was one when I was there)

No deformed babies. This was a NORTHERN carnival, working in PA, and some parts of Delware only.

What was the best part of working as a carnie? Would you do it again? Would you recommend the job to others?

Deformed babies see no state lines.
I wanna see a two headed baby in a jar, dammit!

Well, The best part was definitley the girls, you meet alot of hot women at carnivals.

Would I do it again? Not sure, whileit was fun, if you travel with them, you do not get much free time to do anything else.

I definitley would reccomend it to those who do not have a steady career-based job or family. But not as a career, more of an adventuress summer/fall.

How much crack can a carnie troupe smoke on a given day?

CS, I don't know. I am glad you asked that question though. You would think that carnies are all a bunch of druggies. And to a degree that would be true. Almost all of them smoked pot, and about half drank alcohol on a regular basis, other than that though they were mostly clean (rare exceptions) the reason for that is though. We only made 200/week n(USD). We have no rent, or utilities (well, some had satelite) but consider how hard it is to frugally shop when your choices are walmart (once a week) and WAWA. I did ok by living on mostly brown rice, tuna and some dry goods. only a few people had mini fridges.
