Agreeably, the fact that these 1920-1980 artists and thinkers called their movement "post-modernism" is stupid because how can it apply to current time, considering it is not the leading predisposition of our time now and that time is dynamic and moving forward... it's a shit name. What defines "post-modernism"? first, let's define "modernism", before the post. Modernism is mostly about clearness, about simplicity, and utilitarianism. in architecture, it was clearly defined by white, light, straight lines, cubism, simplicity. In literature it was defined by short, everyday, simple and to-the-point style. etc. Post-modernism is a response to modernism. How so? it goes against everything which defines modernism: it is against simplicity for simplicity's sake, against defined styles like cubism, minimalism, straight lines, etc. Post modernism on purpose jumbles things from different time periods to an undefined thing. If modernism "constructed" a style, then post-modernism deconstructed it, and not only it. it deconstructs everything. It is a style without style, on purpose. In architecture for instance you'll see monsterous buildings without shape. In literature you'll see novels without clearly defined story-lines, beginnings and endings, or even consistent scenes and frames. Sometimes the language won't even make sense. The problem with "post-modernism" is that it is obscure, undefined, pompous (like: "if you don't get the ingenuity of this weird thing then you're not smart enough") and lacks reason.
