Don't take it too hard Fred. The vast majority of us will join you soon enough.

Interestingly the driver may still get a virus at truck-stops.

"Look closely. That truck driver has both hands on his iPad.

...

There will always be a licensed truck driver in the driver's seat but the Frieightliner Inspiration is designed and equipped to drive itself on limited access interstates."

^ So it just means that Fred will get paid for posting on Utopiaforums.com, or for having sex on the driver's seat.

"Automated trucks could also save fuel by driving in "platoons." In this scenario, automated trucks, communicating with one another electronically, could drive in a tightly packed line behind a lead truck. This would have huge aerodynamic benefits because only the truck in front would have to push through a lot of air. Each following truck would ride in a sort of bubble created by the truck in front of it. "

Lol wow. So you have a mega convoy of say 20 trucks going 65 and all of them tailgating so they can draft. All of a sudden a steer tire on the lead truck blows out and all 20 trucks crash through the median wiping out countless families in itty bitty smart cars and school buses filled with children. Sounds pretty cool. And since these trucks have multiple cameras, youtube will be flooded with blood and guts videos. I wonder if Amazon sells 55 gallon drums of popcorn?

On the show MythBusters, drafting behind an 18-wheeler truck was tested and results showed that traveling 100 feet (30 m) behind the truck increased overall mpg efficiency by 11%.[10] Traveling 10 feet (3.0 m) behind the truck produced a 39% gain in efficiency. Additionally, on the same episode, Mythbusters demonstrated that it can be very dangerous for the following car if one of the truck's tires (or their recaps) delaminate, as the chunks of ejected rubber can be large enough to cause serious harm, even death, to a driver following too closely.[11]

Drafters also face the danger that, if the vehicle in front stops suddenly, there is little time to react. Platooning is under study as a means to get the benefit while also increasing safety.

Computers could react in time

So? Reaction time is but a small part of the equation.

True. The decision making process for such a computer will need to be quite advanced, and very well tested.

I guess we'll start seeing mugs that read:
"01101011 01100101 01100101 01110000 00100000 01101111 01101110 00100000 01110100 01110010 01110101 01100011 01101011 01101001 01101110 "

If hackers can take over airplanes and fly them into the ground if the want, just think how rich this is going to make the truck hi-jackers.

"Trucks like this could reduce driver fatigue, according to Freightliner executives, and allow drivers to be more productive. While the truck is going down the highway, the driver could safely attend to paperwork or plan the next trip, for instance."

70% of drivers will be asleep or otherwise not attentively at the wheel. Fact.

Paperwork for one load takes an average of 2 minutes for me and trip planning is 5-10 minutes. Big fucking whoop.

So you will have some free time. You can play games while the druck is driving itself. And u would also get paid while playing da games. Sounds like a perfect job for TC. Truckdriver.

I refuse to be in a self-driving truck. My company has trucks that now have auto-braking when on cruise control. It will slow you down when you come up on someone which is not too bad but several times when a car exits the off ramp in front of me it will SLAM on the fucking brakes cuz it thinks the car is directly in front of me. Thus creating a REAL safety hazard especially for the fucknut tailgating me. So now I don't evben bother with the cruise unless I'm way the fuck out in Montana or some other desolate shit hole.

I'm guessing 2015.

It was posted on my Bday.

And hotrod was still around, so that leaves out 2020.

It was a good day, I had an early morning blowjob.
