After two hours in line in apple store, all the techs could offer me was a full reset, which i could have done myself at home. For some stupid reason my last two backups didn't work, nothing on cloud or on my laptop. I had one backup from last march. This is a second crash in a year, so I got so angry that I went and bought samsung s8. Now I have to read up on how to decouple myself from apple ecosystem, because i still have a few ipads and the whole family uses iphones. But this is not acceptable anymore, they want $1300 for the new X and I have to put up with such nonsense. Almost ten years though

Since after reset it becomes a 'new' phone, I needed to login with my apple id, and apple sends an sms with a security code. Which is fine, but i wasn't getting the code and I get locked out for "Too many attempts". I ask the techs for help and they say, "Oh, we have a really bad phone reception here, in this part of the mall, thats why you didnt get sms". How is that possible that a "phone" shop doesn't have the best phone reception out there?

Most phone shops would love to have signal repeaters, but the reality is that malls and high-vis places usually have thick walls/floors/ceilings or high insulation between stores, which makes it kind of difficult to guarantee reception. Apple stores do have their own wi-fi, and I'm sure that you noticed a screen that offered you the option to have the code e-mailed to you rather than texted (actually I think that email is the default?). Even if you couldn't get the code received via email via the phone that you were trying to unlock, Apple stores have about 50 display devices that can be used to check your email. .. I get that this thread was just venting, but I thought it would be fun to respond while pretending that it wasn't ;D
Dukhat Member	Fri Dec 01 21:07:32 Samsung sucks too or did you not remember their exploding phones. I've had nothing but good experiences with Apple. My 2012 Macbook Pro Retina died out of warranty and they offered me a flat $250 rate to repair it. They replaced my motherboard, faulty hard-drive, and even my screen which had developed a white spot for a flat fee. Not too shabby. Next time buy applecare if it's that important to you. Disclaimer: I own a note 4 with a custom Rom.

Dukhat Member	Fri Dec 01 23:18:18 I forgot samsung was good to me to. My phone died and I sent it in 2 years out of warranty. It cost about 60 flat for a repair and they replaced the motherboard and the screen. The screen was about 3 years old and showing some very minor tinting before like all aging oled's do. So not too shabby. Still going to the apple store is quicker ... as long as you have money.
