Utopia Talk / Politics / Bannon Attacks Romney

Stephan Bannon, another child molester supporter went after Mitt Romney in regards to his non-participation in the Vietnam War and his sons not joining the military.

Of course this Trumpicantard white nationalist forgets that Trump never served, nor did his sons...

Trumpicantards ignore that fact and rejoice!

The Twitterman comes from a long line of draft dodgers. His Grand Father ran from Germany to avoid serving in the military there. I don't believe his father ever served.

Trump did go to military school (because he was such a bad kid) plus there was his personal Vietnam of dodging STDs

He was never called up for the draft.

I can't see anyone in his position signing up when he didn't have to.

Can you?

and that's why the US lost the war and ran out of there with it's tail between it's legs.
if trunp would have fought,he'd have kept America great.
instead he has to make it great now to atone for his cowardice.

A real asshole:

"Judge Moore has more honor and integrity in a pinkie finger than your family has in its whole DNA," Bannon added.

If I'm not mistaken we still have to sign up with the Selective Service for the Draft in case it is ever re instated.

Trump's draft record:
http://lh3...LAKHZ_h5zTEfQaZKdml73IlzoiZeww
the "2-S"s are student deferments
the "1-A"s his brief eligibility
the "1-Y" was his 'bone spurs' diagnosis (despite him being involved in many sports during those "2-S"s that just finished)

...and the 'yxx' suggesting he has an extra chromosome
Hot Rod

Lots of people with physical deferments were physically active.

Romney did serve for 2.5 years. I am not joking. From his perspective. No free education or medical coverage comes from it, nor pay either.

Unless you are considering his work as a missionary to be 'service' you are wrong.

"During the U.S. military draft for the Vietnam War, Romney sought and received two 2-S student deferments, then a 4-D ministerial deferment while living in France as a Mormon missionary. He later sought and received two additional student deferments.[28][50] When those ran out, the result of the December 1969 draft lottery where he drew number 300 ensured he would not be drafted."

That is exactly what I meant. Service to God mormon style is quite a commitment. And he did that 2.5 times over (usually a year if memory serves - or 6 months. I am not sure).

He served from his perspective. I have to accept that in the same way I think Quakers doing farmwork in times of war is fine.

God seems to agree. Given the lottery outcome.

So Bannon is wrong then and he is a hypocrite as well as any other Trump supporters that finds this line of questioning of servitude to America a fault. Because Trump nor his sons served.

Hot Rod a question for you, concerning the OP.

Do you not find it hypocritical to criticize Romney and his sons and not Trump and his sons, or better question, even bring it up at all as a point?

During WWII, correct me if I'm wrong, sons of the rich often volunteered and served in combat. That war had us entering with the least preparedness in the last century.
From the time we entered Dec. 1941 to VJ day was 3 years 10 months.
We were involved in a total global war in all the oceans 3 continents and countless islands. Against major entrenched opponents with well trained and equipped forces.
We totally defeated Germany, Japan and Italy.
At the end of the war we were able to institute the Marshal plan that was hugely instrumental in the recovery of Europe. We were able to send all our vets to College that were willing to go, with the benefits of a well educated populace.

In Vietnam we started slow with advisers etc. and steadily built to over 1/4 million troops in a country with No Navy, No Air Force and a ragtag Army of Gorilla Fighters. The rich and famous made it a point of keeping their children safe at home. They also invested heavily into war related industries. How long where we there? 14, 15 years?

Here we are 16 or so years involved in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, and it seems the Twitterman want us in the middle of another fight in Israel. How many of the rich and famous have their children serving in harms way?

Just a thought that maybe if the rich and famous were made to invest their blood in the outcome of wars instead of their profit margins. These wars would be done and over with a hell of a lot faster.

Take Afghanistan for instance. If we had operated there like we did in WWII with the superiority in military forces that we have. We should have had that country totally under control in a matter of months. The rich and wealthy would have insured that the war was brought to a speedy conclusion in order to get their loved ones back to safe civilian life.

But no, the Hot Rods of this country seem to feel that the rich and wealthy have worked so hard for their wealth that they should not have to put any skin into the game. In fact they put too much of their hard earned money into the game. We, their vassals should supply the cannon fodder for their long drawn out wars with no end game, except the making of money off of these wars.

patom, Pence's son is currently serving and he himself served. There are probably a few more. Biden for one I believe.

Here is the last paragraph of a long article. I didn't read it but skimming it I think it may answer some questions on the subject.

"Donald N. Zillman, “Where Have All the Soldiers Gone II: Military Veterans in Congress and the State of Civil-Military Relations,” Maine Law Review (2006) (publication forthcoming). Seventy percent of Congress were veterans in 1969. Twenty-five percent were veterans in the Congress of 2004."

I don't think that is the current question. We are talking about the rich and famous doing their part.

patom thinks more of them should do their stretch in the military.

I agree, but I can understand why they may not want to because they are assured of a comfortable life with daddy's money. Hell, they might even end up being productive like Romney and Trump.

The question is, as far as I'm concerned, would we still be involved in these long protracted wars or whatever you want to label them as, if the Billionaires or the 1% who profit from them were sending their children to fight on the front lines with the possibility of coming into harms way.

Not sure I have an answer or even an opinion on that particular question.

I'm not sure how much influence they have when it comes to stopping a war.

If you are talking about the military-industrial complex, I think that would depend on the particular industrialist.

The military-industrial complex that we were warned about by Ike in the 50's has pretty much taken control and are allied with the Insurance and Pharmaceutical and banking interests of this country. They own the Representatives that we send to D.C. and our state capitals, lock stock and barrel.

Military service demonstrates a willingness to do public service when it does not benefit you.

Patom
That is a good point. We know that in just wars (wwii for example), the elite loses a disproportionate number of its youth.

The reverse seems true in unjust wars.

werewolf, I did vote for Clinton. I was a delegate for Bernie Sanders at our state Democrat convention but he unfortunately didn't get the nomination. I would gladly vote for him and still believe he would have won the election over the Twitterman.

I wonder who was in office when we went to war in Afghanistan and Iraq?

We didn't start the Afghanistan War. They did when they refused to hand over bin Laden. IMO we blew the perfect opportunity to turn that country into the poster child for what it would cost to harbor terrorists that attack the USA. But then there wouldn't have been enough money made by the military/industrial complex.

We totally fucked up when we went into Iraq on BS info.

Yep.

Afghanistan was justified in every way. Iraq was utter folly.

And we should have packed up the entire operation and went home after killing Bin Laden leaving behind nothing but a huge pile of Taliban skulls and the US flag on a pole embedded in the middle of it.
