to raise their minimum wage from $9 to $11 an hour.

Plus they are going to give a $1,000 (?) bonus to an additional 1,000,000 making over 2,000,000 to get the bonus.

Thanks to President Trump's new tax law.

Frankly so many firms are looking out for their employees I'm sure that none of us have heard of all of those very special companies that are looking out for their employees.

If you have heard of any, please post them below.

" Frankly so many firms are looking out for their employees I'm sure that none of us have heard of all of those very special companies that are looking out for their employees. "

Corporate profits are at record highs and your average worker makes the same in real terms as they did 40 years ago.

Not necessarily so.

Since the new tax law has passed millions of employees and future employees have benefited from bonuses to higher wages.

The more corporations that raise their wages the more smaller firms will have to raise their starting wage to compete for good employees.

I'm speaking of a 40 year trend, and I can certainly link facts and figures to back it up.

Do you have any sort of backing, at all, to support your claims of "millions" of employees benefiting from the tax law, and all these big companies taking great care of their employees as a result of this tax law?

It was pretty obvious that AT&T and Verizon (it was Verizon, right? Whichever other cable company it was) were just buying good will to the tune of a small fraction of their tax savings. I haven't looked into Walmart, but considering they don't pay their employees a livable wage, I hardly care about them increasing their minimum wage. People will still be forced to get help from the government because Walmart refuses to pay respectable wages.

And I am talking of the future that the new Trump Tax Law will bring to the American worker.

Walmart raised its minimum wage to $9 hour in 2015, $10 per hourr in 2016, and now $11/hr in 2018.

pace of increases slowing?

Do you at least have a solid theoretical basis for why trickle-down economics will work this time when it never has in the past, Hot Rod?

Or are you simply parroting right-wing talking points?

yankee, can you provide a ;theoretical basis' as to why the Japanese are investing Billions to build a new auto plant in Alabama that will employ 4000 new workers when the have announced they are doing it because of the new tax law.

BTW, Walmart is also giving more benefits to new mothers.

New layoffs at Indiana Carrier factory a year after Trump deal

Tom Davies, Associated Press Published 11:08 pm, Wednesday, January 10, 2018

NDIANAPOLIS - A new round of layoffs is taking effect this week at the Carrier Corp. factory in Indianapolis a little more than a year after President Donald Trump touted a deal that staved off the plant's closure and saved some of its jobs.

About 215 people are being let go starting Thursday, leaving about 1,100 workers at the plant, according to the company. That's down from the some 1,600 factory, office and engineering jobs at the facility when Carrier announced plans in early 2016 to move production to Mexico.

This week's previously announced layoffs follow about 340 job cuts at the factory in July.

Trump frequently criticized Carrier's plant closing plans during the 2016 campaign. He traveled to the Indianapolis factory three weeks after his election win to announce a tax-incentive agreement partially reversing the closure and keeping some 800 furnace production jobs...
..Trump and other Republicans maintain the business tax cuts included in the $1.5 trillion tax overhaul he signed into law last month will lead to more jobs and higher wages across the country."

Also, US workers should prepare for the usual fallout, once the tax revenues plunge due to the tax cuts, and republicans rediscover their budget deficit concerns. That $1/h raise better cover for all the social program cuts that are coming

Yeah. Making cars is expensive. But more expensive is freight delivery across the Pacific. If Japan believes they'll see an uptick in demand, they aren't going to build assembly plants in Japan, they'll build them here.

Japan wouldn't be opening a plant unless they needed to meet North American demand (i.e. the US). The tax law is just an excuse.

They are probably building it there because they feel they can make a lot of money from you. The Japanese company are going to use your cheap labor and low taxes to enrich themselves and Japan.

Japanese auto makers much like US automakers and EU automakers have no loyalty to any country. They will move their manufacturing or assembly plants where ever they can to make more money.

There is a trend towards slightly too much skewed income to the very top in our economy at this time.

Walmart plans to create 10,000 new jobs and open 59 new stores in the coming year, officials announced Tuesday.

The nation's largest private employer is planning some $6.8 billion in capital investments in 2017, including construction of new and remodeled stores and expansion of its popular Online Grocery Pickup service.

The new jobs will be additions to store personnel, as well as staffing for e-commerce services.

Most of the openings and closings are simply reorganization, of course. In Jan 2016 they announced those openings at the same time they said they've be closing dozens of Express stores.

Depending on the rag you read, either Wal-Mart is going to save us all, or they're about to go under.

Retailers are moving to e-commerce models to compete with Amazon. Small stores and mammoth membership wholesalers run contrary to this.

'Frankly so many firms are looking out for their employees I'm sure that none of us have heard of all of those very special companies that are looking out for their employees. '

Do you mean firms that took care of their employees before the tax reform, or firms that are giving a small fraction of their savings to their employees, hoping for even bigger breaks later?
