President Donald Trump handed out his much anticipated "Fake News Awards" late Wednesday.

The link to the Republican Party site where the awards were listed almost immediately crashed after the president's Twitter announcement.

The New York Times' Paul Krugman headlined the awards, winning first place for his 2016 premonition that the stock markets will "never recover" from Trump's election.

Krugman, a Princeton University professor, lamented Trump's election and warned what his election would mean for the economy.

In second place was ABC's investigative reporter Brian Ross.

Trump highlighted the news that Ross had been demoted after a "bungled" report on the president's alleged connections to Russia.

As Fox News reported at the time:

ABC News has demoted its embattled chief investigative correspondent, Brian Ross, after he botched an “exclusive” report on Donald Trump and Russia.

News President James Goldston announced to staffers on Friday that Ross would be reassigned to ABC News’ outside production house, Lincoln Square Productions. Ross, who had been scheduled to return from a four-week, unpaid suspension on Thursday, will not be resuming his former, longtime role. He is believed to be retaining his title of “chief investigative correspondent,” though he will not be seen on ABC with live reports.

For his third place award, Trump pointed to a correction CNN issued over an report that the president and his son, Don Jr., received an email from WikiLeaks that offered them access to hacked documents.

CNN's initial reporting of the date on an email sent to members of the Trump campaign about Wikileaks documents, which was confirmed by two sources to CNN, was incorrect. We have updated our story to include the correct date, and present the proper context for the timing of email

As Fox News reported:

CNN’s latest anti-Trump “exclusive” came crashing down on Friday, when the Washington Post debunked the network's report claiming the Trump campaign had early, secret access to hacked DNC emails from WikiLeaks.

The liberal network on Friday trumpeted that Congressional investigators obtained a mysterious 2016 email that was sent to Trump and other top aides, including Donald Trump Jr., which contained information on how to get a sneak peek at hacked information that WikiLeaks had acquired. The email, as CNN reported, offered a “decryption key” to access the files.

But by getting the crucial dates wrong, CNN turned information available to anyone on the planet with an Internet connection into secrets - and an implication WikiLeaks was offering to collude with Team Trump.

In fourth place was a later-corrected TIME magazine report that Trump removed a bust of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. from the Oval Office.

As the formal correction noted, reported Zeke Miller "quickly issued a correction" after reporting that the bust had been removed.

The report said Miller asked a White House aide to apologize on his behalf to the president.

The White House reportedly claimed the incident was "deliberate, false reporting," but TIME maintained it was just a regrettable error.

Trump awarded fifth place to Washington Post reporter Dave Weigel.

Weigel tweeted a photo of a 2017 Trump rally on the Florida panhandle with the caption "packed to the rafters."

The photo showed entire sections of empty seats in an indoor arena. Trump said the photo was taken several hours before he arrived.

.@DaveWeigel @WashingtonPost put out a phony photo of an empty arena hours before I arrived @ the venue, w/ thousands of people outside, on their way in. Real photos now shown as I spoke. Packed house, many people unable to get in. Demand apology & retraction from FAKE NEWS WaPo! pic.twitter.com/XAblFGh1ob

Weigel later deleted the tweet and posted a correction after Daily Mail reporter David Martosko apparently pointed out his error.

"I apologize. I deleted the photo after @dmartosko told me I'd gotten it wrong. Was confused by the image of you walking in the bottom right corner," Weigel wrote.

Sure thing: I apologize. I deleted the photo after @dmartosko told me I'd gotten it wrong. Was confused by the image of you walking in the bottom right corner. https://t.co/fQY7GMNSaD

In addition to handing out several more "fake news" awards, Trump listed several of his accomplishments he declared were under-reported by the press.

He cited recent economic numbers, the confirmation of Justice Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, progress in the war against ISIS, among other items.

In his monologue, Sean Hannity ripped the recipients of the Fake News Awards, saying that the press routinely tries to report negatively on Trump.

Focusing on the president's recent health exam, he said the latest example of media bias came in the form of their barrage of questions for the president's physician and the fact Trump scored 30/30 on a cognitive exam.

it was a pathetic list of minor stories... some just tweets or opinions of various people

and most of the false stories were corrected same day

Note nothing suggesting dossier was fake news (clearly would've been on the list if it existed)... nor all his team's connections to Russians... nor Stormy Daniels or any stories about Trump with women.

Nothing big at all on list, yet you will still believe any negative news is fake.
