Just over a year since he was sworn in as the 45th US president, 71-year-old Trump has reportedly hired former digital adviser Brad Parscale to spearhead his 2020 re-election.

A source close to the campaign confirmed Parscale's selection on the condition of anonymity because they were unauthorised discuss it publicly.

Parscale, an Austin-based digital consultant, ran the Trump campaign's sophisticated digital operations in 2016.

He joined the Trump Organization as a digital media strategist in 2011 and was tasked by Trump to create a website for his presidential campaign four years later.

The 42-year-old charged the Trump campaign £68million for its work during the 2016 election, CNBC reported.

In an interview with CBS's "60 Minutes", Parscale said his team of 100 people created 50,000 to 60,000 ads on Facebook to reach Trump supporters every day.

The president's middle son Eric, who has taken on a large role in the campaign, said Parscale "is the perfect person to be at the helm of the campaign".

Ivanka Trump's husband Jared Kushner also praised Parscale in a statement, saying: "Brad was essential in bringing a disciplined technology and data-driven approach."

Parscale has repeatedly denied having any knowledge of Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

Trump filed the paperwork to organize his re-election committee on the same day as his inauguration, held his first campaign rally on February 18, 2017, in Florida.

"Of course he's running for re-election," White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders told a brief room in June.

Trump recently came under fire for wanting to schedule a military parade in Washington for Veterans' Day five days after the mid-term elections.

The idea, modelled on the Bastille Day celebrations, has been criticised as a waste of money.

Trump has historically low poll ratings for a president at this stage of his presidency.

The Democrats have not announced who will represent them during the next US Election – but that hasn't stopped the rumours spreading.

One of the high-profile figures linked with a tilt at the top job are WWE star turned action movie hero Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Another name who's been in the running is charismatic talk show legend Oprah Winfrey.

Among the more conventional prospective candidate on the Democrats' radar are Barack Obama's erstwhile Vice-President Joe Biden and unsuccessful 2016 candidate Bernie Sanders.

What about Rikki Lake or Jerry Springer? Or maybe that George Costanza guy from Seinfeldt. I’d vote for him if I could.

Thanks for dispelling the myth that Swedes are culturally stuck 15 years behind the US.

It is actually probably 15 years since they showed Rikki Lake and Jerry Springer in Sweden.
