I lean toward the idea of be extremely careful what you wish for since the unintended consequences are nearly unlimited.

That is the worst idea to come down the pike since 1789.

In theory this could be a good idea. There are a number of useful changes that could be made to update things for the the modern day.

That said, this absolutely needs to not happen in the current political climate. A constitutional convention would quite likely mean the end of the US of A.

The conservatives can start an Article V convention, but they certainly can't dictate its agenda. That's why nobody has ever done it before. Article V conventions have unlimited power and discretion for proposing and passing amendments. Hell, in theory an Article V convention can scrap the existing Constitution and write a totally new one.

That said though I think it needs to be done as well, though not for reasons established by the people pushing it. We definitely need to have a more concrete definition of what the right to guns is, as well as privacy, interstate commerce, and high technology like the Internet.

I created this thread primarily for those who, on occasion, say the U.S. Constitutional Amendment process should be applied. Twenty-eight must be an unlucky number.

Does anyone wonder why the Democratic Party doesn't seem to be excited for the opportunity? Maybe a lot are but keeping a low profile, shrug.

The Convention of States process by Republicans was birthed in 2013. What's the holdup? Are not the separation of powers already clearly defined and continually abused? That seems to be the intent of the requested Convention. Merry-go-around...

Blessed be our New Founding Fathers for letting us Purge and cleanse our souls. Blessed be America, a nation reborn.

Amendment XXVIII: The President shall immediately nuke all of the coastal cities belonging to the United States (excepting those situated below the Mason-Dixon line on the East Coast), along with Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis, Austin and Denver.

The democrats don't want a convention because the convention is one state, one vote. They would be obliterated.

Now we have arrived at the electoral process reasoning. Basic stuff...

"Fucking Rugian trying to change the constitution to kill me, what an ass."

Hey, I'm not exactly making out great under this arrangement either. But as patriotic citizens of the United States of America, we have a duty to put country ahead of our own individual needs.

"But as patriotic citizens of the United States of America, we have a duty to put country ahead of our own individual needs."

If you can't place duty in a reasonable perspective duty becomes a failure. The statement is rather ambiguous.

Turns out about 4 of us have the same sarcastic sense of humor. Everyone else takes us seriously.

Sarcasm is often subtly applied where an individual may or may not realize. ;-)

The biggest fear there is is the fear that liberals might have a single word of input to the process.

The argument that "it is in the constitution" in relation to the second amendment was brought up, the counter point would naturally be that, there are provisions to amend the constitution. Obviously the process can be used for other things as well.

I heard Bret Weinstein (the evolutionary biologist) explain that, "what we face is an epidemic of novelty" things that we lack the programing to deal with and not enough time to acclimatize. Novelty can make you sick, physically and psychologically or even socially, think social media, refined sugers etc. Most importantly he said, the rate of change exceeds our native (evolutionary) ability to deal with it.

Facing these challenges it is tempting to bring out the broad sword, hysteria induced legislation fervor, where you could do with a scalpel, or here is a novel idea, do nothing/wait and see. I think that is where you are getting at.

I agree on that principle, I think politics should operate on the medical professions first principle, "first, do no harm". That is easily and readily sidelined with the introduction of mass media and weaponized empathy in the political arena.

"That is easily and readily sidelined with the introduction of mass media and weaponized empathy in the political arena."

It isn't the sideline, but rather the method being applied to accomplish adaptation.

Technology isn't the genesis, but it is the accelerator with its rapid rise creating worldwide confusion and chaos. You and I have different soldiering methods, no shock there, eh? That isn't a bad thing. All of us suit our own tolerance and intolerance and both adapt.

The old white man has always been fairly decent when it comes to world and local adaptation. Possibly better than most and not as well as a great number.

I the possessive is the roadblock and always will be. A good example was given by Aeros in his last post even though he had his thumb between the nail and hammer. Ouch!

I'm not waiting for the big boom. ;)
