Utopia Talk / Politics / Ambush in Mali - hard to watch

Realities of war and being in a vastly outnumbered ambush. Makes you wonder how the F did they get so separated from the rest of the US group, not to mention where did the native troops go they were patrolling with (ran away I'm sure). But with the spliced up helmet cam no way to tell.

if we are going to put US soldiers in harms way, they should have air support, especially in wide open spaces like this.

The video is removed. Is there any other place where we can watch it?

Before I watch... what does video show? People being blown up? Head shots?

That was a whole lot of blood at the end. Rip.

Can we blame this on Trump?

I assume this is it.

Training only gets you so far. Light, low-caliber weapons in open terrain, unarmored vehicles, local forces cowering, outnumbered and out-gunned. Not a good position to be in.

Was this in Mali or Niger? Video title says Niger.

Niger. Militants are based in Mali, and have apparently returned to Mali since the ambush.

”if we are going to put US soldiers in harms way, they should have air support, especially in wide open spaces like this.”

Yeah, but aren’t special forces supposed to manage on their own? It was probably bad luck that they ran into a horde of enemies. Or maybe the enemy knew about the special forces presence, because someone leaked intelligence, so the enemy set up an ambush.

When you spend a few years arming international jihadi mercenaries, don't be surprised when they don't contain themselves to the battlefield you armed them on.

They did have air support, but after coming under fire they thought they could handle it. 1 hour in they called for support, took the airplanes 1 hour to get there.

”United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) is very active in Africa and if Americans knew a little of what it’s doing there they’d be horrified. America is playing a military game while China’s there playing an economic game. You only have to read any online African news outlet to see who Africans, in general, prefer.”

This all happened early October FYI. They insurgents apparently passed on the looted gear and only in last week or so did some ISIS media guy put it all together into the scenes in the video.

I don't usually get psychologically messed up from war footage, but something about the helmet cam putting one into their situation makes it really awful to watch from an empathy standpoint. Probably the strongest reminder of the brutality of modern infantry combat I've watched personally.

I guess you have not watched the Islamic State slaughter house video. Well don’t.

Must be tough to watch, Nim.

I feel for you, then.
Guess it feels aweful to watch it, knowing that sooner or later it will be right in Oslo.

Lets not over exaggerate. These were 4 spec ops out numbered by dipshits who caught them out in the open. Rome lost a few times to random barbarians, it happens. It is sad, especially the end when our pov is shot point blank and we see his blood, but it isnt indicative of anything more than an unfortunate outcome to a questionable mission.

Yeah, this is not the first an american dies in combat. Also, this happens every other day in the USA. Kids and children being shot to death. Their blood pouring out on the floor or on the street and down in the gutter.
