Oregon day care worker gets 21 years for drugging kids with melatonin so she could tan, workout
USA Today NetworkMary Bowerman, USA TODAY Network Published 10:07 a.m. ET March 12, 2018

An Oregon woman accused of drugging kids at her day care so she could go to the tanning bed and work out, was sentenced to to 21 years and four months in prison on Friday.

January Neatherlin was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty in February to 11 counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment and one count of third-degree assault,The Oregonian reported.

The 32-year-old was arrested last year after police found seven young children unattended at her unlicensed day care Little Giggles, KTVZ-TV reported. According to authorities, Neatherlin drugged the children with sleeping-aid melatonin before leaving the facility to tan and work out.

Bend police began watching Neatherlin last March after her former boyfriend and a former roommate reported her behavior. Neatherlin reportedly told parents they couldn't drop off or pick up their kids during 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., which was reportedly "nap time," the Oregonian reported.

Police checked records at Cross Fit and Tan Republic and found that Neatherlin typically visited the businesses during the children's "nap time," according to the Oregonian.

Deschutes County Circuit Judge Wells Ashby said Neatherlin's behavior created lasting damage for the families who trusted her to watch their children. Parents reported that their children still struggle with sleeping issues.

"There is a pattern with you of lying repeatedly, of repeatedly putting children at risk," Ashby said Friday, KTVZ reported.

A little harsh, when you consider that six years was considered a harsh sentence for a case of actual manslaughter.

If Trump and Session had their way, as they should. She should be executed as she was a drug dealer.

If you want jurors to have mercy on you, the absolute worst thing you can do is fuck with other people's children. Sentence may be excessive but can hardly be called surprising.

Sentenced to 21 years for giving them melatonen. Hell I had an asshole oxygen thief in the jail who punched a 2 year old so hard he killed him and he only got 8 years.

Some more details on the xharges:

"The Bend woman entered her guilty plea Wednesday morning in Deschutes County Circuit Court to 11 counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment and one count of third-degree assault. As part of her plea agreement, other charges were dropped. She had been facing 122 charges of first-degree criminal mischief, first-degree criminal mistreatment and recklessly endangering another person.

The Deschutes County District Attorney's office is recommending a 35-year prison sentence. Neatherlin will be sentenced in March.

....

Seven of the criminal mistreatment charges relate to the children found in March. The other four criminal mistreatment charges are from previous incidents with children in Neatherlin's care in 2013, 2015 and 2016. The assault charge stems from 2014, when Neatherlin was first investigated by the Oregon Office of Child Care after a citizen tip.

Neatherlin has several prior felony identity-theft convictions under the names January Livsey and January Brooks.

She has been in Deschutes County Jail almost a year since her arrest in March. While in custody, she allegedly tried to convince three inmates to confess to her crimes, offering one $50,000, according to court documents."

Sounds like the DA found a popular case to prosecute and showed no mercy.

I mean, I see jail time, she drugged kids without parental consent, left them alone, and seems to be a career criminal.

Still weird to see the disparity in punishment for an OTC sleep aid and unsupervised sleep, compared to cases involving actual deaths.

If she was a cop, she could have gunned down that many niggers and gotten less time.

Quick question.

Why would a parent stick their children in an unlicensed day care facility? I would think that should be high up on your list of things to check out.
