Air Defences are primarily access denial weapons. Saturation attacks will always work Syrian air defenses did most if not all of the actual shooting. Its currently a win all around Russia showcased technology in the hands of arabs and it worked! Syria can nag for more air defences from Russia because it did not work perfectly. It was done the night before international inspectors were to start working. We can only speculate into why it was so important to complicate their work. That speculation of course undermines narratives that the regime in fact did use chemical weapons.
