If Kilauea really blows it's top and really becomes a major eruption, one that shifts its plate and causes one of the major volcanos in the Western States to have a major eruption too, is there any possible chance of the domino effect reaching Yellowstone Park?

Those faults are kind of tricky sometimes, aren't they?

Just curious.

It's a basalt volcano. These are the virgins of the volcano world. Low energy, it's lava moves slow, people avoid it by walking out of the way. Unlike the chad granite volcano that is high energy, moves at the speed of sound and you can't get out of the way as you are already dead.

Also it's already blown its top.

They have been talking that a much larger eruption might be comeing. Nothing like Krakatoa, but it would be throwing out rocks the size of refrigerators and lots of them.

They said if it gets that big and keeps going it could cause one or more of the plates on the West Coast to shift too, which could cause a major eruption there too.

Not really worried, but just curious.

"Anyone Know Anything About Geology?" Only what I've read recently at USGS and other articles.

"If Kilauea really blows it's top and really becomes a major eruption, one that shifts its plate and causes one of the major volcanoes in the Western States to have a major eruption too," NO

"is there any possible chance of the domino effect reaching Yellowstone Park?" No

Easy enough to research.

All I know is what I hear on the news.

They said that if Kilauea's plate shifts it could, possibly, cause an eruption somewhere on the Ring of Fire, possibly on our West Coast.

If won't shift the plate. Worst case scenario is Hawaii breaks apart and causes a tsunami. The odds of that happening is astronomically low. It's a basalt volcano. These things don't blow like that.

Cool, I hope you are right.

Aeros is mostly right. This volcano is about as tame as they get.

Volcanic activity in Hawaii is not caused by tectonic plates but rather by hot spots as I understand.

The Ring of Fire is a horseshoe shape. Kilauea is in the center of the horseshoe.

I know the location, I lived in the neighborhood for 11 years. :)

I guess it was just the ***news people*** in Hawaii that were talking about Plates and The Ring of Fire.

Then you should know it isn't connected to the ring.

All I know is that geology has something to do with rocks.
