New NFL rule.

If the players take the field they must stand for The National Anthem.

Otherwise, they must stay off the field until after it plays.

Maybe they didn't want their Sunday afternoon entertainment to be turned into yet another social justice outcry. You want to talk outrageous, talk about the kneelers and the (normally ultra-censorous) league that stupidly enabled them.

It's pretty easy to just ignore the kneelers and let them protest. I did it just fine.

Also, league pretty much had its hands tied. If they punished kneelers, they'd almost assuredly lose a lawsuit since there were no rules on the subject.

You're going to have to forgive me if I don't find you to be a member of the demographics that were most likely to be annoyed by kneelers.

I'd note that the protests didn't just take place during the National Anthem and didn't just intend to be a big "fuck you" to Donald Trump, but were also dedicated to a cause that many Americans believe supports scumbag copkillers. I'm struggling to come up with a combo that would be more explosive to white NFL fans.

They were not that outraged until Trump ranted about it.

True. As it gained attention, it was still not at the forefront until Trump's sob comments and his psuedo patriotism fervor

"I'd note that the protests didn't just take place during the National Anthem and didn't just intend to be a big "fuck you" to Donald Trump"

They had abso-fucking-lutely nothing to do with Trump until he opened his shithole. Even after, they still didn't have anything to do with Trump.

"were also dedicated to a cause that many Americans believe supports scumbag copkillers."

BLM? No, kneelers weren't dedicated to BLM at all. That is stupidity being unable to grasp simple fucking concepts. The kneelers were protesting bad-acting cops and the indifference to their actions. It may have been the same cause as BLM, but they were not related.

I will certainly agree with you if you're suggesting that the people who got their panties in a tizzy over kneelers are complete fucking morons, as it seems that is your argument. If you're trying to justify the backlash that kneelers received, you're going to have to do better than "people wanted to be outraged, so they conjured up their own imaginary narrative and got angry at that."

I'll note again Kapernick originally just sat on the bench til a vet asked him to switch to kneeling so as NOT to be disrespecting the flag

it was Fox News dumb-assery that created the problem then was massively exacerbated by Trump latching on to it from watching his daily doses of 8 hrs of Fox News

You are the one supporting disrespect of The Flag.

Plus, you are a liberal and there is no longer any doubt that liberals have every intention of putting an end to America and her freedoms once and for all.

Flag Etiquette Do's and Don'ts

The U.S. Flag Code formalizes and unifies the traditional ways in which we give respect to the flag, also contains specific instructions on how the flag is not to be used.

The following is a list of do’s and don’ts associated with Old Glory, the U.S. Flag.

When displaying the flag, DO the following:

Display the U.S. flag from sunrise to sunset on buildings and stationary flagstaffs in the open. When a patriotic effect is desired the flag may be displayed 24-hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.
When placed on a single staff or lanyard, place the U.S. Flag above all other flags.
When flags are displayed in a row, the U.S. flag goes to the observer’s left. Flags of other nations are flown at same height. State and local flags are traditionally flown lower.
When used during a marching ceremony or parade with other flags, the U.S. Flag will be to the observer’s left.
On special days, the flag may be flown at half-staff. On Memorial Day it is flown at half-staff until noon and then raised.
When flown at half-staff, should be first hoisted to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff position. The flag should be again raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day. By "half-staff" is meant lowering the flag to one-half the distance between the top and bottom of the staff.
When the flag is displayed over the middle of the street, it should be suspended vertically with the union (blue field of stars) to the north in an east and west street or to the east in a north and south street.
When placed on a Podium the flag should be placed on the speaker’s right or the staging area. Other flags should be placed to the left.
When displayed either horizontally or vertically against a wall (or other flat surface), the union (blue field of stars) should be uppermost and to the flag's own right, that is, to the observer's left.
When displayed in a window it should be displayed in the same way -- with the union or blue field to the left of the observer in the street.
When the flag is displayed on a car, the staff shall be fixed firmly to the chassis or clamped to the right fender.
When the flag is used to cover a casket, it should be so placed that the union is at the head and over the left shoulder. The flag should not be lowered into the grave or allowed to touch the ground.

When saluting the flag DO the following:

All persons present in uniform (military, police, fire, etc.) should render the military salute. Members of the armed forces and veterans who are present but not in uniform may render the military salute.
All other persons present should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, or if applicable, remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart.

When stowing or disposing of the flag, DO the following:

Fold in the traditional triangle for stowage, never wadded up.
The VFW offers the following instructions for properly disposing of a worn flag:
The flag should be folded in its customary manner.
It is important that the fire be fairly large and of sufficient intensity to ensure complete burning of the flag.
Place the flag on the fire.
The individual(s) can come to attention, salute the flag, recite the Pledge of Allegiance and have a brief period of silent reflection.
After the flag is completely consumed, the fire should then be safely extinguished and the ashes buried.
Please make sure you are conforming to local/state fire codes or ordinances.

Quick list of Flag Etiquette Don’ts:

Don’t dip the U.S. Flag for any person, flag, or vessel.
Don’t let the flag touch the ground.
Don’t fly flag upside down unless there is an emergency.
Don’t carry the flag flat, or carry things in it.
Don’t use the flag as clothing.
Don’t store the flag where it can get dirty.
Don’t use it as a cover.
Don’t fasten it or tie it back. Always allow it to fall free.
Don’t draw on, or otherwise mark the flag.
Don’t use the flag for decoration. Use bunting with the blue on top, then white, then red.

It doesn't.

But if you are an American, why should you?

It is a way of showing respect for your country and of thanking all of those who have served, are serving, and will serve to protect your Rights and your Freedoms.

I pity you if you do not see enough worth in your country to stand and place your hand over your heart to show respect for the reasons I just mentioned.

If you have so little respect for your country to not stand and uncover then I invite you to move to Cuba, North Korea, Iran, Venezuela or any other shit hole in the world where you do not have any Rights.

And you don't pity freedom of speech that is afforded by the constitution instead of the campaign to castrate those that feel they should not stand or kneel?

Do you not believe in in your own country. Especially if the basis of it is instilled upon by the first amendment?

Are you as critical to those that violate the flag etiquette by using the flag for merchandise and advertisements, printed on clothing and other apparel? You know the same ones that are frothing from their mouths about patriotism because people decided to kneel, which is more respectful?

I can go on about this all day. Because you are being an outright hypocrite. Nothing wrong with showing. Having respect and loving your country, but you can bring awareness and have an opinion that is granted to use because the US Constitution allows us to do that.

So spare us your holier than thou love or leave attitude because people make a choice on how they want to Express themselves as long as it doesn't interfere and violate the the US constitution.

So Mr. Constitutional Conservative, do you acknowledge your hypocrisy?
