For the likes of us the mere thought is unspeakably dreary.” In his preface to The Travel Diaries of Albert Einstein, [Ze'ev] Rosenkranz says the diaries exhibit a “quirky style” and “acerbic quips” but also contain some “troublesome entries”. “I began to ask myself: how could this humanist icon be the author of such passages?” Mr Rosenkranz writes. He adds it “seems clear that Einstein has bought - to some extent - into the perceived threat of ‘the yellow peril’,” referring to the racist colonial trope that the people of East Asia were a threat to the western world. I've criticized the Chinese a fair bit for their censorship of Google, Twitter, Facebook, NYT, etc. I guess that makes me a racist too, even though the Taiwanese are predominantly the same ethnic group (i.e. Han) and I don't have the same criticisms of them. I will continue to criticize Chinese culture, too. And I don't give a fuck if someone says I'm racist for it. It has nothing to do with race. If I criticized Soviet Russia, nobody would give a shit because they are all white people. But because China is "Asian" suddenly it's racist? Bullshit.
