LONDON (AP) — Britain's National Health Service has proposed cutting back on operations including breast reductions and anti-snoring treatments as part of plans to save money

"The list of 17 treatments under consideration to be halted or reduced includes tonsil removals and procedures for carpal tunnel, hemorrhoids and varicose veins. Authorities will discuss the proposals next week."

Sam:

So, people will now need to get insurance or pay for these themselves?

As opposed to the US where... oh.

"Britain's National Health Service has proposed cutting back on operations including breast reductions"

Is there a single person on this board who's honestly outraged about this?

Pretty sure most cuckservatives are morbidly-obese so yeah, they must be very upset that their big juicy titties will stay that way.

As if they aren't already paying for them via raised taxes? Let's not pretend the money to pay for single payer just comes from a magic money tree.

As long as the taxes to pay for universal health care coverage provide more coverage than an equivalent amount of insurance premiums do - then the argument for the insurance is on the losing side of logic.

Well, if taxes were high enough to cover these, they wouldn't be cutting them.

I surely don't need to wheel out the cost per user figures? It's a well known fact the UK (public plus private) health spend is much lower than the US per capita with better results.

Hilariously, the UK spends less per capita of public money on health than the US.

Yeah, let's all adopt the US system.

Why not just raise taxes?

Surely there is some OPM left somewhere.

@ seb:

It should be noted that government funded healthcare is almost entirely high risk populations (old, poor, old and poor). Certainly, the US is not good at spending per capita for that group of people.

However, our private systems are only about 10% higher than the UK (bottom page, $4500 per capita):

And this is including our ridiculous cost of drugs, mind you, which would close that gap to about 5% above UK.

Hood:

The denominator is total population, not recipients.

So US public figure is flattering. It's only paying for a segment of needs, not all as the UK is.

We could, but should elective procedures be covered? And might that tax mondy be better spent on something else?

This is what politics is all about.

Yeah, but as is usually the case, people want everything covered without their taxes ever going up.
