Rudy once headed up the Criminal Division of the A/G's office in Washington. So, if Trump is to convince the people that it is not a good idea to overstep their authority this would be the way to do it and Rudy would be the right man for the job.

Rosenstein is in the crosshairs for killing the Mueller probe... either by replacing with someone who will fire Mueller or just squash the report when its done... team Trumps loyal toadies like Devin Nunes are making unreasonable demands of Rosenstein then smearing him when he doesn't comply

Trump wants to replace Sessions just to get a loyal fixer in general like his long time criminal pal Cohen, but it's not as easy a path as Rosenstein to deal with Mueller
