Utopia Talk / Politics / Bake the damn cake, part 2

So, 26 days after winning at the Supreme Court, a transgender activist went into masterpiece cake shop and demanded he make a cake celebrating the 7th anniversary of their transition. Predictably, he refused. So the State of Colorado's civil rights commission once more hauls him in for an inquiry.

Prompting another lawsuit, and this time the gloves are off. The baker is requesting the courts find Colorado's civil rights law unconstitutional, which would essentially nullify every decision and penalty they have levied. He also wants to find the governor of the state liable for the mess in his official capacity making taxpayers on the hook for millions and that the chair of the civil rights commission be found PERSONALLY liable (rather then officially) and adjudged a penalty of 100,000 dollars from her individual assets.

he should bake the cake & write 'you are an abomination unto the Lord' on it

or if the client gets to pick the details then how is it interfering w/ his artistic talent or whatever as was argued last time

"Attorney Autumn Scardina said she called the store"

i.e. specifically sought the store out to make a political statement.

Then they would just smack him for hate speech. Honestly, they should have just left the man alone. If there is one thing the courts hate, it's to see the same people arguing the same thing all over again. To have it happen 6 months after a supreme court ruling? Colorado is going to get smacked down hard.

Not really the issue, Aeros. The state isnt going to run out of money pursuing this. Private citizens will.

So let me see if I get the timeline straight:

-Incident w/ the transgender occurs June 26, 2017
-Trans. files a complaint with CCRD July 20, 2017
-SCOTUS rules on the gay cake case June 4, 2018
-CCRD rules against baker on trans. case June 28, 2018

Either that's really funny timing, or the Civil Rights Division has a really big bone to pick with the cake guy.

This is why you don't let Californians emigrate to the good states. They bring their poisonous values with them and turn a formerly decent state like Colorado into a shithole with cool mountains.

Yeah, he defied them. You can't do that in current year.

SJW's fucking overplaying their hand.

Even still, lol at Rugian for thinking Colorado was better when it was just a bunch of racist ranchers.

Fuck you retard. You live in MA, the most educated state in the nation, and somehow you are one of the dumbest fucks I've seen on the internet.

Why don't they leave the man alone to practice his religion as he sees fit?

Opponents say Utah's medical marijuana ballot measure would violate Mormons' religious beliefs, citing Masterpiece cake decision, and ask a state judge to keep voters from weighing in in November.

Next is probably Scientology demanding end of any sales of pharma products because they don't believe in drugs and it violates their religious beliefs.

"The lawsuit takes issue with a provision of the ballot measure that would prevent landlords from not renting to a medical marijuana cardholder, saying that could create an issue of Mormon property owners being forced into renting to people who use cannabis.

Plumb’s “religious beliefs include a strict adherence to a code of health which precludes the consumption and possession of mind-altering drugs, substances and chemicals, which includes cannabis and its various derivatives,” the complaint states.

The group cites a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling involving a Colorado bakery owner who declined to make a wedding cake for a gay couple, saying it would go against his religious beliefs. (The baker won and filed a similar suit Tuesday.)

“In the United States of America, members of all religions, including the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints have a constitutional right to exercise their religious beliefs,” the complaint reads. “This includes the right not to consort with, be around, or do business with people engaging in activities which their religion finds repugnant.”

CR is probably the only person stupid enough think the Mormon suit has any chance at all.

Theologically, there is no equivalency between the two. The similarity ends at the fact theyre both religious cases.

Actually, my boi, had you read the article, they call it a desperation measure and very few people believe that this can be successful. I bothered to read the whole thing, so no, I did not think that mormons had much chance. I also run it by your mom, and guess what, my lady agreed with me

The issue here is not that he is being made to serve "the gays". Its that he is being compelled to speak things he does not believe.

"speak."

The definition of speech is pretty fucking out of control.
