Millennial Couple Bikes Through ISIS Territory to Prove ‘Humans Are Kind’ and Gets Killed
Michael Sinkewicz
15 AUG 2018
"Evil is a make-believe concept we've invented to deal with the complexities of fellow humans."

An idealistic young American couple was killed in an Islamic State-claimed terrorist attack last month while on a cycling trip around the world.

Jay Austin and Lauren Geoghegan, who were both in their late 20s, last year quit their office jobs in Washington, DC, to embark on the journey. Austin, a vegan who worked for the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, and Geoghegan, a vegetarian who worked in the Georgetown University admissions office, decided that they're were wasting their lives working.

Well you can be killed by ISIS in London, Paris and New York too.

Where does it say that they wanted to prove that humans are kind? lol

this is in OP article:

“You read the papers and you’re led to believe that the world is a big, scary place," Austin wrote.

“People, the narrative goes, are not to be trusted. People are bad. People are evil."

“I don’t buy it," he continued. "Evil is a make-believe concept we’ve invented to deal with the complexities of fellow humans holding values and beliefs and perspectives different than our own... By and large, humans are kind. Self-interested sometimes, myopic sometimes, but kind. Generous and wonderful and kind.”

However, Austin and Geoghegan's dream trip came to a tragic and gruesome end when they got to Tajikistan, a country with a known terrorist presence. They were riding their bikes through the country on July 29 when a car rammed them, according to CBS News. Five men got out of the car and stabbed the couple to death along with two other cyclists, one from Switzerland and the other from the Netherlands.

Two days later, ISIS released a video showing the same men sitting in front of the black ISIS flag. They looked at the camera and vowed to kill "disbelievers," according to The New York Times.

Yes, don’t go to Tajikistan. Wherever that is.

Actually, I just checked that shithole up. It seems they are allies to USA, being member of NATO PfP.

They died for their beliefs, I respect that. Could be worse, for example you could be a US soldier and get killed for oil.

What a bunch of fucking retards. Of course the media has to say that they are "millennials" when in fact they are simply retards.

Fucking hippies think that travelling through the third world means anything. Shitty food. Shitty people. Shitty culture. Go bike through Europe or something retards.

Sam's real problem with this story is that the couple wasn't taking advantage of Tajikstan's numerous mountain-climbing opportunities. What a tragic waste.

Tajikistan was decent as far as Islamic shitholes go, before he enabled and emboldened Islamists.

Yeah not sure why media has to use the word "Millennial" every time a young person does something stupid.

Tajikistan (and Afghanistan) was decent in 1201. After the mongols burned down everything and Timur pissed on the ashes, the area never recovered. Soviet policies didn’t make it better.

The cities of central Asia were many, ancient and important, specially for Iran as this was the Iranian cultural heart land, where Zoroaster was born and an overwhelming number of Iranian scientist and thinkers came from. The first settlements the ancient Iranian ancestors came upon as they left their nomadic lifestyle. And then poof, the neighborhood hasn’t been the same for 800 years.

“By and large, humans are kind.”

Likely the words of someone who has never worked in food service or retail.

Not that I've ever worked in either field (can we call it a field?), but people are fucking awful. A few weeks ago I was begrudgingly walking through Walmart and some crotchety old lady was berating a stocker for having some trolleys in the isles. She was all "I've been in this industry..." like it was some point of pride.
