Canada climbed aboard at 10:00 PM last night so this replaces NAFTA.

How about that, another promise kept.

They now have to buy our milk!!

They do not ***have*** to buy our milk, but our dairy products will certainly be competitive.

They are saying this agreement will turn North America into a manufacturing powerhouse.

Sounds exciting.

Let's just hope that Congress does not throw a monkey wrench into the deal. It requires their approval.

The DOW is up in the $265.00 range. If it is approved there will be a real substantial increase in the stock market.

Now that the deal is close to approval other countries are ready to sit down and negotiate.

Even India, they have high tariffs on just about everything. I remember reading once that India had a 25% tariff on a magazine of ideas that would have benefitted India a great deal. It is tariffs like that that are ruining so much.

So by throwing out excessive tariffs a great deal of manufacturing power is released which benefits everyone involved.

Ask the Chinese and Thai workers how exciting it is to work at manufacturing.

Why do you guys make up stuff like that?

You realize that as soon as you do you then believe it is true and not to be questioned.

I assume you are both here in America. Did either of you watch his little press conference about the deal?

If you had you would know there is a great deal of meat to this new agreement.

i watched some of it... it was Trump speaking... therefore absolutely no value whatsoever

if someone spoke beforehand, then maybe some reliable info was given

CNN article about it:

http://www...a-usmca-differences/index.html

seems like more dairy being allowed into Canada and some auto manufacturing stuff which unclear who all helped/hurt by, plus some structural issues

going to 75% auto parts built in North America probably helps Mexico most? but the $16/hr thing for 40% of parts probably good for US (& Canada maybe)

no idea impact to consumers, sounds like higher priced cars to me

Hot Rod: "They do not ***have*** to buy our milk, but our dairy products will certainly be competitive."

You obviously don't live near the border. Canadians that live near the US border hardly ever make a trip across without coming home with milk and other dairy products.

Calais, Me., where I used to live has a population of around 3000. They have a busy IGA, Shop and Save and a Walmart, all selling groceries. Not counting 5 convenience stores. On average, half the cars in their parking lots have Canadian tags on them.

Canadians aren't coming across the border for our medical services but they sure as hell come for gas and groceries.

Poultry is another thing that Canadians come across the border for. Ain't hardly a freezer in New Brunswick and half the rest of the Maritimes that doesn't have a US turkey or chicken in the freezer.

i wonder if there are risks of some auto companies saying 'fuck it' & moving 100% of auto production to some slave-istan

one article says the penalty is a 2.5% tariff...

but i don't know the details of the auto & auto parts economy at all :p

the document supposed to contain stuff on vehicles is 234 pages of unreadable randomly referenced legalese to me.. eg

"A change to savory, crushed or ground, of subheading 0712.90 from savory, neither crushed nor ground, of subheading 0712.90 or any other chapter; or"

i am just going to take on faith it effectively means that mexico agreed to pay for the wall.. but everyone are trying to hide that to save mexico embarassment.. [which is what i got by reading between lines of earlier news reports]

otoh.. canadian dairy document looks like canada will let in tiny tiny amount of various dairy products duty-free.. and slowly increase this to a plain tiny amount over years.. when these annual tiny quotas are exceeded then dairy will "continue" to get "mfn tariff treatment"

so maybe that's hundreds of millions of dollars in more dairy exports to canada per year soon [so good job trump].. but still it seems canada is going to be protectionist mostly-closed-dairy market and arch-enemy of united states.. and trudeau and his minions should continue to be treated that way by americans

there is definitely no wall funding from Mexico or he'd be shouting it from the NJ rooftops next to the thousands of muslims

Trump in fact took a question about the funding & just told his normal lie about getting $1.6 billion for his wall from the budget & the wall is already started (it is not... at all)

It's NAFTA with three tweaks and the dairy stuff was already agreed as part on the trans Pacific trade agreement trump nixed.

"and the dairy stuff was already agreed as part on the trans Pacific trade agreement trump nixed."

Oh well shit, I guess if the dairy stuff was in TPP then we should have passed that absolute abortion of a treaty.

Seriously, you're just looking for stuff to attack Trump over at this point.

With the dairy tariffs gone they may not have to make the trip. Not sure if gasoline is impacted.

tw - i wonder if there are risks of some auto companies saying 'fuck it' & moving 100% of auto production to some slave-istan

I think we were set to put a 25% tariff on cars if Canada did not join the gang.
