to drink in bars here in the USA but London is ridiculous:

How the fuck do you run up a tab of L50,000?

The problem with London is that there are high class nightclubs that cater to global mega rich: traders who get bonuses in the tens of millions, Russian oligarchs, Arab oil prices. And when that lot celebrate they like to do so with conspicuous overt consumption of insanely expensive luxuries to show off their status.

So if you go into that kind of bar, thinking you are flush, acting like you are a big spender out to celebrate and asking for the best champagne, you run the risk you are way out of your league and will be buying some obscure bottle of vintage champagne of which there are only ten left in existance. Or some 109 year old malt whiskey, aged in barrels made of Oak from a French warship captured at Trafalgar or some such.

And get a very nasty surprise.

This happens every so often.

When it hits bonus season, there's occasionally a story or two in the press about a group of city traders who drop a *tip* on this kind of scale - not far off this kind of bill.

It's all a bit grotesque frankly.

Fried worked at a mid range restaurant this summer (moved on). They had a rich Indian guy come in at 8pm. By 3am his tab was over 13k and he wanted to stay. I thought that was ridiculous

I'll stick with cheap beer and straight whiskey. When I'm buying I buy Black Velvet, but if you are buying me a gift I love Jamesons.
Hell I can't seem to stay awake long enough to get drunk anymore.
Speaking of which, I have to get me another bottle of Black Velvet tomorrow. Went to have one in celebration of the Eagles win and remembered I drank the last of my whiskey a few days ago.

I had a bottle of Black Jack I carried around for about 30 years. Since I don't drink anymore I gave it to the maintenance man when I moved into my new digs last year.

I have been meaning to ask him if it was as mellow as one might think.

The NFL really should do better about teaching their players how to handle their pay. Most of them come from poor backgrounds and to suddenly be making a couple hundred thousand dollars a year seems like they have hit it rich.

But they haven't. Most NFL players will do 4 seasons make maybe 2 million dollars overall if they are lucky and that is it for the rest of their lives. Most end up bankrupt.

HR:

Scotch whisky/whiskey Association.

"Whisky does not mature in the bottle. So even if you keep a 12 year old bottle for 100 years, it will always remain a 12 year old whisky. As long as the bottle is kept out of direct sunlight, the Scotch Whisky will neither improve nor deteriorate, even if it is opened."

I've got a fairly expensive drinking selection for entertaining guests even though I don't drink a drop and haven't for over 35 years.

I don't really like Scotch. Not to my taste. Irish whiskey is another story though :)

£50,000 for a few drinks? Holy crap. This might be the darkest day of Jacksonville Jaguar's history.

I never drink for more than 500 SEK on a single day. Which is about $55. My limit is $110.

Tom:

All of it is white lightening aged and naturally flavored.

All whiskey bottled, unopened, and kept out of sunlight no longer ages. My point to Hot Rod for the quote:

"I had a bottle of Black Jack I carried around for about 30 years. I have been meaning to ask him if it was as mellow as one might think."

If it is opened it degrades the quality to totally ruined over a one to two year period depending how many times it is opened and kept from sunlight.

Irish whiskey is triple distilled to provide lightness compared Scotch being doubled uninterrupted distillation.

If you haven't toured(be sure and take the full tour) the Jack Daniels Distillery in Lynchburg you should put it on your bucket list. I've done several times and each time was awesome. I always p/u some hard to find Jack when I go. At one time I was pretty fond of a good whiskey. My wife still enjoys sipping chilled whiskey.

Isn’t Jack Daniels a bourbon?

I bought a bottle of Blanton’s Gold Edition a year ago. Probably the best bourbon I’ve had. The bottle is 1/3 full. If the quality starts to degrade after one year of being opened I might have to drink the 1/3 that’s left on friday or saturday night. Dayum...

Bourbon is whiskey.

They make the claim that they are the only type of whiskey which puts the spirit through a charcoal filtering process. It is the reason they believe it deserves to be distinguished from the label bourbon.

Names and marketing. Differences between scotch, bourbon, and whiskey depends mostly on the type of grain percentages used for the mash.

At any rate, it's all to ones personal taste. I used to like rum but when I was 20 I got so drunk on it that I puked until something round and hairy came up. I believe it was my asshole and had to swallow it back down. Now I can't get rum past my nose.
I've always liked the taste of whiskey straight up.
A clue if you are going to mix whiskey with anything but water and you wish to impress your friends. Get an empty bottle of top shelf from your friendly barkeeper and fill it with bottom shelf. Nobody will ever know the difference when mixed with soda.

Did Retard Rod really think liquor improves as it sits in the bottle?

Really not that crazy, considering many wines and beers do.

What sort of person is impressed by you acting like you happily ruin a fine whisky? I'd be appalled, personally.

Black Label was 90 proof prior 1987 when it was reduced to 80 proof. Depending on the timeline and the persons knowledge of a Black Jack unopened bottle may or may not know what to expect when he drinks the gift.

Crazy, no, I agree that it's not really crazy. However, it certainly is idiotic, so it ties in nicely with what we already know about Retard Rod.

And I have to agree - a person that mixes high quality Scotch whisky or other whiskeys with anything (except a few drops of water in certain cases) is fucking retarded. And anyone that is impressed by that is equally retarded.

Wine unless stored very carefully will turn to vinegar. Once the bottle is opened you need to drink it or use it for cooking.

Beer? The best it tastes is asap after brewing. That is why a lot of these micro breweries are doing so well.
