I don't even drink, but to really enjoy the fire, a hot whiskey with a spoon of honey to sip would be sweet. Add a good book with silence other than the crackling of embers and a howling wind would top off a good mystery while HR froze on his wheelchair sled.

That is practical survivalism. Not quite up to Norwegian code alas as the back heating is a bit too hot. A hot water boiler for it is optional (I would opt for that if I had an independent gravity powered water supply).

Up. But stacking rules apply. If a given piece of split wood stacks better with bark down, then opt for that.

Bark up-it's a puzzle. I always had enough without bark that solved the stacking problem. The art of wood. :)
