That idiot Tim Ryan wants Trump to keep his "promise" about bringing jobs back to Ohio. Any fool would know this is not Trump's fault. The people that are running the company now are trying to sell energy efficient cars when the American drivers want something with a little more horsepower. His removal of the regulations requiring strict mpg efficiency improvements across the whole fleet of vehicles allows these car companies to dump the less profitable cars (read: cheaper MSRP) and keep only the more profitable ones (suvs, trucks). They wouldn't have made mpg efficiency targets if they got rid of these sedans and they wouldn't be closing factories and laying off people. So thanks Trump. Your deregulation has cost jobs.

Under the Obama-era regulations, car manufacturers were supposed to steadily increase their total average emissions standards, capping out at 54.5 MPG by 2025. So if those standards moved forward, a manufacturer might produce every three cars like this in a couple of years: Hybrid vehicle (made in America): 80 MPG Regular sedan (made in America): 55 MPG SUV (made in Mexico): 30 MPG Combined average: 55 MPG Problem is, no one in America is buying the hybrids and sedans, because those are gay and SUVs are fucking awesome. So when the Trump administration comes in and repeals the upcoming emission requirements, the manufacturers realize that it's more profitable to produce every three cars they make like so: SUV (made in Mexico): 30 MPG SUV (made in Mexico): 30 MPG SUV (made in Mexico): 30 MPG Combined average: 30 MPG As a result, the American plants (which are geared toward making hybrids and sedans) are shuttered, while the foreign plants (which produce SUVs) are maintained and actually expanded. Again, not saying it's right, but that's the logic.

Really, what this all comes down to is that American companies are doing what American companies do: rip you the fuck off by charging well beyond reasonable for whatever product they're selling you. It isn't like the steel, components, or R&D of an SUV/Truck is much greater per vehicle than a sedan. They can just charge $15,000 more per car because people think bigger = more expensive and don't question. And hot rod is dumb. Trump didn't consider for a second any fallout of the regulation repeal.
