A swamp creature who was linked to Operation Condor as head of the CIA and Iran-Contra as vice president, before going on to a disastrous four years of raising taxes, elevating that leftie fuck Souter to the Supreme Court, letting millions of wetbacks enter the country, establishing NAFTA, and failing to advance even a single piece of conservative legislation. The GOP is better off for purging such weak-willed RINOs like him. BIH

His son failed to vote for GEOTUS, so I agree with you on the stupidity part.

Although it is telling how you seem to prioritize the ability to competently recite a teleprompter above all other qualities.

he could sound like a mature adult without a teleprompter

unlike Trump

should be a pretty basic requirement for the presidency

this is supposedly a statement from Trump on Bush
http://pbs.twimg.com/media/DtTw7WFVsAEeKso.jpg
you could imagine Obama saying words like this without help (although admittedly most anyone would want help for an official statement), however you can't imagine Trump saying or writing any of it

i find it offensive his name is even on it...
Paramount

You can tell that Trump didn’t write that letter. There is no criticism of Bush and there is no self homage in it. Also, the letter does not finish with MAGA.

I doubt Trump has even seen this letter.

you aren't paying very close attention if you think Obama & Trump demonstrate similar levels of intelligence, knowledge &/or maturity when speaking without prompter

also i'll alter my earlier comment about "W" to 'aura of averageness'... but i don't think an average person should be president. So "W" wasn't stupid relative to who you might find in a bar in Texas, just stupid relative to my expectations for the office.

A) “’Thousand points of light,’ I never quite got that one. What the hell is that? Has anyone ever figured that one out? It was put out by a Republican, wasn’t it?”

B) "President Bush inspired generations of his fellow Americans to public service -- to be, in his words, 'a thousand points of light' illuminating the greatness, hope, and opportunity of America to the world"

both attributed to Trump... yeah, right

We Over-Honor Our Presidents

By CHARLES C. W. COOKE
December 4, 2018 10:31 AM

It is in no way to insult George H. W. Bush — or any other president, for that matter — to ask whether the retooling of their calendars is an appropriate way for the people of a republic to respond to the death of an elected representative. Tomorrow, the press reports, is to be a “day of mourning” — a day on which the stock market will be closed, on which the federal government will shut down, on which the House of Representatives will begin a week-long break, on which various universities will cancel classes, on which the Postal Service will halt deliveries, on which the Supreme Court will adjourn, and on which major American newspapers will postpone events that they had previously planned to hold. Across the U.S., flags will be flown at half-staff for a month.

Why? Irrespective of whether he was a great man or a poor one, George H. W. Bush was a public employee. He was not a king. He was not a pope. He did not found or save or design the republic. To shut down our civil society for a day in order to mark his peaceful passing is to invert the appropriate relationship between the citizen and the state, and to take yet another step toward the fetishization of an executive branch whose role is supposed to be more bureaucratic than spiritual, but that has come of late to resemble Caesar more than to resemble Coolidge.

persian gulf war was unnecessary.. saddam would have withdrawn peacefully if allowed

ghwb made clear he wasn't going to let that happen.. he was insistent on punitive war for some reason i don't think ever has been clear.. maybe precedent for new world order vision.. or proof american military was great again and to end vietnam demoralization.. maybe even more cynically to get victory laurels and boost reelection chances

from story i just linked.. "I saw Omar Abd el-Rahman.. “How did you allow the organization to target a soldier protecting a bank in Asyout? He’s just an employee obeying his employer.” He replied that this soldier was supporting a takfirist government and therefore he deserved the same punishment it was receiving."

if saddam was like hitler then hitler wasn't removed from power with that battle

"So like… it’s like a proposal for surrender… a proposal for surrender as follows. “You surrender or we bomb you while you sit there, but of course if you get up to leave we will bomb you while you are walking away.”. Is that a good policy? See that’s almost Nietzschean, isn’t it? Surrender, but don’t move. Of course, if you don’t move, you won’t have surrendered, so we’ll have to bomb you, but if you move we won’t be sure you have surrendered so we’ll have to bomb you. So surrender, but we’ll bomb you is kind of a policy designed to do what? Bomb people! They can go, “Don’t…”, but it won’t help, because they will have to be either still or moving, or some condition in between."

in case of doubt of this seldom mentioned aspect.. pat lang of dia memory of briefing ghwb

http://tur...ahmin-through-and-through.html

"He asked me what the Iraqis, then occupying Kuwait were likely to do. He understood that I had spent quite a lot of time in Kuwait and Iraq during the Iran-Iraq War. I told him that Saddam had been allowed to think that we would not defend Kuwait by the wavering and ambiguous statements made before the Iraqi invasion.

"I told him that if he made it clear in an address that occupation of Kuwait meant an all out US military effort to drive them out of the country and that we would not necessarily stop at the border between Iraq and Kuwait they would withdraw because they knew they could not fight the US successfully.

"His response was that he did not want them to withdraw because they must be punished for aggression."

Watched the pall bearers take the casket from the hearse at the cathedral in DC. I would bet that 41 would have been telling someone to give those guys a break. It seemed like it took 10 min. just to carry him up the steps and into the vestibule of the church. Then they stood there holding the casket while the Bush family went up the center aisle and were seated. Then it seemed like half the Holy Joe's within a 50 mile radius of DC marched up the aisle. Then they pall bearers were allowed to make the slow march up the aisle.
This whole process must have taken a half hour with them guys holding that casket in the air.

I don't know about any of you but I have been a pall bearer a couple of times and those caskets with a body inside aren't light.

"I would bet that 41 would have been telling someone to give those guys a break."

I doubt it since he most likely planned his entire funeral step by step. A quality casket without a body can weigh up to 400 pounds, you think he had one? Every pallbearer was specifically sized and in superb condition.

I was looking for fatigue in any of them and saw none. They completed the mission without fault.
