Hot Rod passed away sometime during the evening of the 22nd or early morning 23rd. His nephew called me (not a joke or prank) because I'd left a message on HR's answering machine.

When I get the obituary I'll post. Probably tomorrow or Saturday.

Rods last thoughts were him wondering where all the UP dudes went

We all knew Rod wouldn't survive Trump's impeachment anyways

Can WTB cry for real this time or is 'the defender' or 'the guardian' going to come along to defend donald trump?

eh, it is just their, admittedly immature, way of dealing with someone dying.

funny thing, i never really believed HR was some 70 year old man, it always seemed too implausible and after the death fake out i was certain HR was some immature 20 something with a lot of teenage angst. in a way this must be how a lot of people felt when they read about Houdini's death, cause he wasn't some immortal magician, he was just some con artist guy who accidentally killed himself.

but really, i think there isn't any reason to actually feel negatively about him. or any of you, really. HR was just some dude on a forum who really wasn't that bright, hey congrats guys, you spent literally years of your life arguing with a legit senile old man. that is something to actually feel negatively about. like, you guys legit wasted hours of your life arguing with a literally feeble minded old man who had nothing else going on in his life ... for years... for like a decade and a half.

Okay, after that, I gotta say, I think HR got the better of a lot of people. Simply because he was always too dumb to realize he was wrong, thereby avoiding the embarrassment.

"eh, it is just their, admittedly immature, way of dealing with someone dying."

This implies dealing with it is necessary. People don't really deal with things that they don't care about or are inconsequential to them.

How big is the chance that he dies on the same day, twice?

But then, I read a week or two ago that it is more likely that you die during christmas because of all the stress. Maybe Hot Rod was stressed about all the things regarding Trump. So in the end it looks like that maybe Trump killed Hot Rod.

Maybe Hot Rod went to another forum because there are very few people posting here. There's nothing here to be "The Guardian" about anymore. Hot Rod was basically sitting here alone all dayz and waiting for someone to post anything bad about Trump or Israel so he could defend them. In his last thread he was wondering where everyone are. So now whoever his boss is probably told him that it is okay for him to leave this forum because maybe he is more useful elsewhere.

Tom:

I never met Hot Rod in person, but I've talked with him over the phone 6 or 7 times. Three of those calls were to his hospital room when he was having serious health issues.

Greg, the nephew who returned my call, is the son of HR's brother and over seeing final affairs. He is the nearest in relationship of surviving family members.

If Greg hadn't returned my call of concern left on HR's answering machine this thread wouldn't exist. I asked if I could post HR's obit in Utopia and he approved following with a the statement: "Clark immensely enjoyed Utopia."

Go figure!

TW:

I didn't mention Utopia by name simply asking to post the obit on a message board where he had posted for years. He responded with "is that Utopia Politics?" following up with "Clark immensely enjoyed that place". He wouldn't need help in finding if he was inclined to do so. The conversation lead me to believe he was mostly interested in completing a responsibility he had been fated. Consequences..., still waiting for the KC Star published obituary.

I was thinking today that I started posting here when I went to work at the jail back in 2002. I did it mainly to help me learn to type. I do alright typing now and don't have to look at the key board. Have no idea how many words a min. I can do and don't really care.

Words per minute is sort of a useless metric. You'll almost never find yourself pressed for time copying something verbatim or free writing anything.

UP also did not exist in the last millennium, pretty sure it launched in 2001.

WPM was just a metric to show that you knew how to use a keyboard. But, obviously 20 years ago people didn't really understand how much technology would change and that using a keyboard would become less of a "skill" and more of a "if you live in the western world and dont know how to use a keyboard then you probably can't read or write in general".

Words per minute was something that my mother said often when trying to get my brother and I to type back in the 50's, on a type writer made in the 30's.

I needed to learn to type and learn fast when I went to work at the jail and did my stint in the control room. We had to log all movements and incidents as part of the duties in the control room. Hell I was 58 when Aspire talked us into getting a computer. Had never learned how to type and had really no need to prior to working at the jail.

Any how this site helped me because Aspire didn't teach me how to copy and paste for a couple of years and any article I posted I did by typing it myself.

How many of you can still write long hand?

"Utopia came online in January 1999 after a series of betas, referred to by players as "First Beta," "Long Beta," and "Short Beta." Game creator Mehul Patel was involved in the BBS-based gaming movement, and authored the BBS games Barren Realms Elite and Solar Realms Elite prior to moving to the web with Earth: 2025 an online multiplayer game.

Utopia was originally created under the company Solaria Games, which had its roots as early as 1996. In 1999 Solaria Games was renamed to Echelon Entertainment, then renamed in July 2000 to Swirve.Com."

The political forums was probably created somewhere in that timeline. I think when it became Swirve we had to leave because Swirve didn't like bad words?

Kargen's timeline seems right to me, but I was an Earther, not a Utopia player.

Found Earth: 2025 in 1997. The Earth boards existed then.

> I had no idea that Mehul also made a Harry Potter RPG.

He probably didn't. He did let you set up communities that used the Earth: 2025 forums look and feel which he also hosted though, so some people probably set one up for Harry Potter RPGing.

So instead of our current iteration that's written from scratch in a different language and hosted by TC, back then someone could have set up an offshoot that actually used the same board tech and was hosted by Mehul. It wouldn't have been linked from the Echelon pages themselves, but anybody who had the link to, say, http://boards.eesite.com/board.cgi?boardset=utopiaforums could participate in that alt Utopia forum with you.

Do they send the flowers to his relatives, or to the funeral?

I guess there is no point in sending flowers to his home address though, since he doesn't live there anymore, right?

Maybe you can contact Greg (see link above) and ask him where to send flowers.

We don't even have the funeral home that is handling the service. All it said was that there will be a graveside service.

Usually there is something that family or acquaintances can leave memories or thought that the family can archive in memory of the deceased. But if we don't know who is handling the services we can only post our thoughts here.
