How could that be when "Mortal Engines" had like.. effects.. and also it had.... more effects... and possibly a story about those effects.

Poor Peter Jackson. Had he ODed on cocaine and hookers immediately after RotK came out, his legacy would have been unassailable. Instead hes quickly turning into Shyamalan to the tenth power.

Shyamalan has even decided to destroy one of his early, good movies (Unbreakable) with this new "Glass" movie, so maybe Peter Jackson will try to recover his name by making his own mega cross-over event: "Sauron versus King Kong"

This was as stupid as that Netflix movie that tied Cloverfield and 10 Cloverfield Lane together.

Also, mortal engines looked beyond retarded.

this is stupid, so stupid that i don't get why.

jackson has, basically, stopped directing at this point and is focusing on his WW1 era museum he manages.

Also, this movie is just something he, and others, produced. that does not mean he paid for it (at least not entirely). it just means, at least at his level, he agreed to put his name on it and probably had some input on the story but beyond that, it is not his movie.

finally, his latest passion project "they will not be forgotten" is doing fucking huge considering it is a documentary about ww1.

so, in TLDR form, you guys are stupid.

god damnit mordechai. they are nothing alike. M Night has been building towards this trilogy of films for the entirety of his career, it is his magnus opus (even if it ends up sucking). it isn't like he hamstrung split into the unbreakable universe, it was also his intent.

meanwhile the cloverfield movies are pretty much independent specs that JJ has bought up and are in fact tied into the same universe during post.

Kong is a great movie. so i would at least want him to live to make that one.

also, he also produced D9 and i really doubt anyone thinks that D9 is "his movie". But i bet he had a shit ton more input in D9 than mortal engines... pure speculation but you can see how off the rails bloomkamp went once Jackson stopped producing his stuff.

It was worth seeing just for the spectacle of it. It was pretty cool looking in many scenes. Very Steam Punk.

But yeah, it was doomed to loose. It's a strange theme. It wasn't promoted very heavily. I don't remember seeing a trailer or commercial for it before it released.

..not exactly. Jackson definitely paid for it, split only with 4 other producer credits, and he gets top bill, which most often means he paid/contributed the most. He also took a screenplay writer credit, so he exerted authority over how the book would be brought to screen. And then of course he gets lots of credit for what producers do behind the scenes: the movie tapped into his own visual effects departments (many of the effects people from LOTR were brought in for this), WingNut Films came with him from his previous projects (which includes more producer perks such as New Zealand location prep), he had his personal casting options (e.g., Hugo Weaving) and access to actor guilds, and he himself chose director Christian Rivers — Jackson has worked with Rivers at least since 1992's "Dead Alive", and Rivers directed the visuals for 2005's King Kong.

Some producers just write a check and let things happen, but Jackson has been designing this movie since 2009 when he bought the book rights. It sounds like he should have directed it too, but he apparently did all the work and then thought he could hand the rest off to a special effects director who had zero character experience — as though effects themselves can carry a scene. So it looks like a big share of this falls on Jackson himself.
