Member | Tue Jan 22 09:37:34 I dont think it's a major mystery why the comparative languages of French (Romance), English (Romance-influenced), Spanish (Romance) and Italian (Romance) might have more similarities to each other than to German. |

Member | Tue Jan 22 09:42:35 It's obviously exaggerated for comedic effect. German does sound really fucked up to us native dutch speakers though. Also english is very much a germanic language. Don't know where you get "Romance-influenced" from. Obviously roman and germanic languages have influenced each other... don't know why you're so desperately trying to escape the germanic tag though. |

Those pesky Normans did a number on our language. http://com...rigins_of_English_PieChart.svg The point isn't that English isn't a Germanic language, it's that the French influence results in a lot of instances where English sounds more in common with Romance than Germanic speech. |

Some of them are almost mutually intelligable. Wolf - Gorg (”Worg” makes this connection more clear) Brother - Baradar Daughter - Dokhtar Mother - Madar Father - Pedar Nephew - Nave (grandchild) Chin - Chune Eye - Ashk (tear) Dog - Sag Mouse - Mush Goose - Ghaz Duck - Ordak Name - Nam Door - Dar Bear - Bordan (carry away) |
