But blacks can still mock me?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whiteface_(performance)#Whiteface_and_Blackface

It is generally accepted that blackface is intrinsically racist, based upon a traceable racial link to slavery and racial segregation. For this reason, blackface is all but extinct in modern art forms. This isn't, however, the case with whiteface. Albeit controversially, whiteface is still employed in modern times as an expression of art. Those who defend the art aim to differentiate it from blackface, often arguing that whiteface does not draw on a legacy of racism in the way that blackface does, and that the art is a wholesome satire of white lifestyles. Opponents of whiteface argue that the art is primarily a vulgar retribution for blackface that derives its comedic value from imposing the indignity of blackface on white people.

i'll guess this thread is about guessing which character is the Virginia Governor in one of his poorly selected yearbook photos:

They get to chose the picture they put up. And he chose the blackface/clansmen picture? Even back then; that was a fucking retarded thing to do.

What's really funny is Republicans love digging up shit like this and they all failed to do so. DaFuq? When did they become so incompetent? Did they get complacent after beating Hillary?

I'm really not on board with judging a 59 year old man by his behavior when he was a fucking teenager.

I too agree that a man should not be judged. But is should be part of the information voters have about a candidate before deciding to vote for him.

Becoming an elected official is not a fundamental human right.

He wasn't a teenager. He was 24 and in fucking medical school at the time. Even college ... maybe a pass; but medical school? Come on.

And let's not lie; the GOP would've used this in ads 24/7 and defeated him in 2017 if it had come out. The fact that they failed to do so is what's most surprising. The GOP has no real reason for you to vote and depend on attacking Dems. This was the perfect situation.

But they are definitely going to "learn" from this and go totall recall on all the Democratic candidates in 2020. I expect to find out Kamala Harris was a lesbian rapist cult-leader a month before the election.

"yup... w/ wife as prop, he is claiming neither person him"

That is worse. What kind of moron would post a picture like that that is not of him?

And what kind of "changed man" credibility is he trying to construct with an incredible story?

He should have just bit the bullet either way. "that picture does not reflect the man I am today" would cover the unlikely event of neither being him too.

jergul,

Sorry, but your post reads to me like "I too agree that a man should not be judged. But at the same time, a man should be judged."

Highlighting embarrassing behavior from someone's days as a minor will necessarily bring on judgement. People tend to do completely stupid shit in their youth; in a just society, such behavior should not normally be considered relevant to gauging someone's conduct in their adult lives. Experience and maturity do tend to significantly change a person.

That having been said...

"He wasn't a teenager. He was 24 and in fucking medical school at the time."

Assuming this is correct, then a lot of my sympathy goes away in this particular case. He done fucked up.

"The GOP has no real reason for you to vote"

False. Between preserving our free market and innovative health care industry, maintaining law and order, protecting our constitutional rights (and also our right to life and liberty), keeping our military strong, and fighting for racial and gender equality under the law, there's a million things that Republicans are for. You just don't hear much of it because your WaPo and CNN jerkoff material, which is more obsessed with Democratic talking points like spending $30 trillion on Medicare, raising income taxes to 90% and abolishing border security.

You really do come across as someone in desperate need of breaking out of his media bubble. I'd offer you my WSJ credentials if I thought you'd be able to comprehend the content.

Dukhat you seem to have confused your political parties. Do you not remember a recent Supreme Court nomination?
Do you not remember all the shit Democrats threw in President Trumps direction?

Republicans do try and sling some shit around but Democrats have turned digging up past digressions into an art form.

Ah, this guy should've just apologised and moved on.

That's an amazing post coming from a "Republican" who completely abandoned his stances the second he started reading Vox.

And as for education, at least I'm capable of understanding basic math and economics, such as that $3 trillion is more than $700 billion, or that you can't just make jobs appear out of thin air. That automatically places me above you and everyone on your side.

"The 39-year-old Democrat called it suspicious that the allegation surfaced amid a time when he could possibly assume the governorship if Northam steps down. "Does anybody believe that's a coincidence?" Fairfax asked."

If Kavanaugh spent his entire career on the Supreme Court trying to lock up media pundits and Democrats out of spite, I wouldn't blame him.

A) Supreme Court is lifetime position affecting everyone
VA governor is single term, affecting Virginians

B) 'Big League Politics' website's top story currently is about their discussions w/ Alex Jones... seems good reason to be skeptical (their initial sex assault story was a facebook post screenshot as the total evidence)

C) obviously the story isn't dead, as lots of news sites reporting it now that more info known

I actually don't think Northram should step down as long as he apologizes and admits it was inappropriate. Apparently, those pictures could've been the yearbook editors trolling Northram as nobody has definitively said that he was the one in the picture. That would be an interesting development if that wasn't him.

If it's not, he can probably salvage things IMO though the dems would pay a significant price. His Michael Jackson blackface thing was a little bizarre but at the same time, Michael Jackson was huge back then and blackface not used for racism but for imitating a star isn't that big a deal especially on Halloween.

Dems need to save their shock for things that actually matter like rape. Guy is clearly not a racist anyways.

"In 1980, when I was a 19-year-old undergraduate in college, some friends suggested we attend a party dressed like rappers we listened to at the time, like Kurtis Blow, and perform a song. It sounds ridiculous even now writing it. But because of our ignorance and glib attitudes – and because we did not have an appreciation for the experiences and perspectives of others – we dressed up and put on wigs and brown makeup.

This was a onetime occurrence and I accept full responsibility for my conduct."

And it doesn't matter how long ago it was because the gold fish that is social media is only now aware that a transiently provocative food bit has been dropped in its tank, so don't even try to get out of this outrage cycle until it's distracted by the next food bit in 24 hours.

Smart dude, Billah has like, all the programs.. like.. Paintshop, and Photoshop.. and... umm.. After Effects if you want to add some animations to the picture.. Illustrator if you want to draw little devil horns on them.. And like, with Paintshop you can zoom in on the 20x20 pixel area that makes up their faces, and like, you know.. like, science it.

You can look up the programs Im talking about. A couple professional photoshop plugins to use would be Imagenomic Noiseware or Topaz Labs DeNoise.

After that you could use an HDR multiple exposure method to bring out even more details.

After that you could use other programs to sharpen the photos even more.

But I would want an original high quality scan of the photo and someone else would have to do all the facial recognition geometry processing because I have no idea how that works.
