Dems gotta pump up the african vote.

You can tell that Dems think they have this election in the bag when they're literally clamboring for letting death row inmates vote for them. That party is completely lost to sanity.

Ya trump could actually win again if those retards keep this up and nominate some criminal loving freedom hating communist like booker, bernie, kamala, warren etc.

Some of Warren's proposals have actually been pretty good ideas. They would need to be worked on to be feasible, quality legislation, but being roughly in the ballpark is a pretty good step for a candidate.

"Some of Warren's proposals"

Like jailing execs for civil offenses? Or mandating that corporations carry our government directives via stakeholder mandates?

I can only assume you're not referencing more of her overtly desperate "please please get me through primaries" maneuvers, like calling for packing the Supreme Court, supporting GND, or calling for Trump's impeachment over...whatever.

God she's hateable.

"Like jailing execs for civil offenses?"

Yes, like jailing execs for gross negligence when handling sensitive information of millions of people. Of course, I'd expect that stance to be negotiated down from there into the "heavy fines" range, which is a significant and necessary step up from "pretend to slap their wrist."

You seemed to defend extreme stances when Trump was making them, citing it as a negotiating tactic. Now you're suddenly against it?

I see. So you have just explicitly come out in favor of jailing people for non-criminal offenses.

I know the charge "anti-American" gets thrown around quite a lot, but frankly I dont know what else to call someone who supports such a fundamental upending of our country's legal system.

I fully expect him to.

It's almost like the law would make it a criminal offense.

There are roughly 2500 inmates on death row. Of that number, how many of them do you think are really focused on the next election?

In Maine. All inmates have the right to vote. In the 8 years I worked in a county jail there were, to my knowledge only 2 inmates that asked for absentee ballots.

For one thing, I learned that most people who end up behind bars don't give a shit about politics while they are behind bars. They have many other concerns to worry about. Most centered around themselves and their immediate wants.

Does anyone really feel that the Boston Marathon bomber, if he actually votes, will effect the outcome of any election?

If you commit a felony in Mississippi, even of the lowest level, say perjury, you will be banned from voting for life. I wonder why that is?

If inmates have their right to go get a cheeseburger truncated it seems having their right to vote be truncated to cheeseburger time.

they are handing trump his reelection. who the fuck is dumb enough to stand on stage and say mass murderers in jail deserve the right to vote? dem front runner Sanders, that's who.

If only people weren't retarded enough to just assume everyone in jail, or even a significant portion of the jailed population, are mass murderers (or even murderers at all).

It's a lot more reasonable to give weed smokers the right to vote.

see:
http://upl..._Sentences_in_State_Courts.pdf

A full half of felons (per 2006 data) were in jail for drug, weapons, or unspecified reasons. Violent criminals were under 20%. I'm fine with 80% of felons (based on this 2006 data) being given the right to vote.

It should also be noted that murderers were under 1%.

You commit the crime knowing if caught losing your right to vote is part of the punishment. I don't mind some kind of process to get the right to vote back but part of that process is finish serving your jail and subsequent parole time.

"weapons"

And this includes shithole states like California where people have spent years catching felonies just for owning a 30rd magazine.
hood

"if caught losing your right to vote is part of the punishment."

Unless, you know, we change that. Laws as they exist today doesn't mean they need to keep existing that way. If one is proposing a law to allow felons to vote, they believe that the aforementioned punishment should not be a punishment.

Sure we can change that. I don't see it as a good idea to allow felons to vote until they have served the rest of their sentence though. And if we decide they should be able to vote from jail it shouldn't be retroactive because again they knew the consequences.
hood

Ah yes, those unequal rights. Fuck off, tard.

Unequal how? Did they not know the consequences of their actions?

And either way I think if you are still serving your sentence no vote for you.

The insult means you have no valid point.

Thanks for conceding the argument.

Good Lord you guy's act like there are millions of incarcerated felons that are so civic minded that they can't wait to vote. Hell most of the country can't get 50% of legal voters out to vote in a national election 35% on local elections.

All this furor is much ado about nothing.

a better issue is that election day should be moved to Saturday... i think it's safe to say the number of religious people needing horse & buggy travel time has dwindled

or a holiday might be even better as people might feel more of an obligation to vote... too bad so many people are idiots though

Haha, it is pretty hilarious that hood and tw are actually attempting to justify this stupid argument. You are straight up giving trump his second term when you start saying the Boston bomber deserves to vote.

it's only Bernie's argument that i'm aware of, & i certainly don't consider it a good issue to fight for

Mt: waaaaah, murderers voting!
Sanity: actually most felons are convicted on mostly bullshit charges - certainly nothing severe enough to revoke a basic right.
Mt: ahahahahahaha my argument was voided but I'm gonna proclaim victory anyway!

Do you tire of being the mental equivalent of a potted plant?

Do felons actually give a shit about voting as an aggregate? I'd think they care about more immediate concerns, like having their 2A rights restored, being able to get a decent job, and maybe getting some compensation for the time they spent in a cage for a victimless crime.

But I understand it's more expedient for D politicians call for increasing their own tallies.

Oh, I don't care. Just seems secondary.

Also, the right to vote >>>> 2A rights. Cause, ya know, without the right to vote, people can take away 2A rights and you're powerless.

Works the other way. Without the right to defend your other rights, all rights are at the whim of the voting masses.

"being able to get a decent job, and maybe getting some compensation for the time they spent in a cage for a victimless crime."

But sure, you wanna get hone in and get triggered by people being able to exercise their 2A rights. That's your prerogative, retard.

Wait, wait, I got this.

But sure, you wanna get hone in and get triggered by people putting absolutely anything above their 2A rights. That's your prerogative, retard.

Haha hood genuinely thinks people in jail should be able to vote. Prime example of how out of touch the left has become with common sense.

Inmates in Maine have the right to vote. It hasn't stopped Republicans from being elected.

"people putting absolutely anything above their 2A rights."

Yeah, I'm reasonably certain in my belief that if you took a survey of ex-cons, they would rank employers not being able to immediately blacklist them with a background check, being able to defend themselves with better than a black powder pistol, or being compensated for their zero-income months/years in a cage, far higher than being able to vote for their next school board member.

You want to make that about "muh guns", that's still on you, retard.

Sorry, I assumed you were playing the game where you post retarded strawman positions. It certainly appeared to be what you were doing. But you're definitely contending for one step above the "potted plant" category right now. Congrats on that!

"Also, the right to vote >>>> 2A rights."

And yet, outside of House elections, only one of those rights is explicitly enshrined in either the original Constitution or the Bill of Rights.

Also, the Founders were pretty clear on their intent that it be the educated classes that vote, not the population generally.

Plus they didn't allow women to vote or anyone who wasn't a property owner and white.
Tea Party wants/wanted to return to the original Constitution just like the John Birch Society. Both sponsored by the Kochs.

"And yet, outside of House elections, only one of those rights is explicitly enshrined in either the original Constitution or the Bill of Rights."

I never claimed that the Constitution or its authors were infallible. Clearly they made an error when it comes to voting rights.
