Aaaaaah, even the words themselves feel good to write. I know it ain't over until the fat lady sings, but I can't wait to start celebrating already. This is such a joyful occasion, and I couldn't be enjoying the prospect more.

I'm so ecstatic for the UK, really I am. This is going to be a great two years for you guys, I hope you realize it. He hasn't even been confirmed yet, but I already feel like I know what it's like to live in the days of Winston Churchill. I couldn't be happier for the future of your country.

Boris Johnson as leader of the government of the United Kingdom. Magnifique.

Anyway, here's your future Prime Minister getting involved a domestic:

"Police were called to the home of Boris Johnson and his partner, Carrie Symonds, in the early hours of Friday morning after neighbours heard a loud altercation involving screaming, shouting and banging.

...

Johnson and Symonds have increasingly appeared together at public events in recent weeks. The former mayor of London topped Thursday’s ballot of Conservative MPs in the party leadership contest and is now the favourite against Jeremy Hunt to be the next prime minister.

The neighbour said they recorded the altercation from inside their flat out of concern for Symonds. On the recording, heard by the Guardian, Johnson can be heard refusing to leave the flat and telling Symonds to “get off my fucking laptop” before there is a loud crashing noise.

Symonds is heard saying Johnson had ruined a sofa with red wine: “You just don’t care for anything because you’re spoilt. You have no care for money or anything.”

The neighbour said: “There was a smashing sound of what sounded like plates. There was a couple of very loud screams that I’m certain were Carrie and she was shouting to ‘get out’ a lot. She was saying ‘get out of my flat’ and he was saying no. And then there was silence after the screaming. My partner, who was in bed half asleep, had heard a loud bang and the house shook.”

Johnson left his wife, Marina Wheeler, last year and began a relationship with Symonds, who has been credited with revitalising his appearance and approach to politics. She was part of his team when he publicly launched his campaign for the Tory leadership earlier this month.

In recent weeks the couple have been sharing a flat in a converted Victorian house. It has been reported that they intend to move into Downing Street together if he is elected leader."

I was happy enough with an American lapdog being installed as PM, but the entertainment factor is looking great as well. Love it.

"Donald Trump weighed into Britain’s domestic political turmoil by backing the pro-Brexit Boris Johnson to succeed Theresa May as prime minister, in a breach of convention on the eve of the president’s state visit to the U.K.

Trump insisted he wasn’t giving a full endorsement of any one of the 12 candidates to become leader of Britain’s ruling Conservative party but said Johnson “would be excellent” and would do a “very good job” running the country.

“I like him,” Trump said in an interview with the Sun, the U.K.’s best-selling newspaper, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. “I have always liked him. I don’t know that he is going to be chosen, but I think he is a very good guy, a very talented person,” Trump said."

Our President speaks, and the UK accedes. As it should be!

Johnson is a national joke. He's nothing like Churchill. You have to sup deep on the cup of insanity to think so.

With a working majority of 3, soon to be 2, I think you are being rather optimistic about two years.

And he's unlikely to be a lapdog.
Im better then you

Seb,

You're going to need us after the UK crashes out of the EU with no deal on October 31. And to be clear, we are ready to come to support our special ally when that does happen. Granted, we may need some incentives such as backing us on Iran or opening up your NHS to some structural changes, but that's still a pretty even trade IMO.

Incidentally. What's the actual process for requesting a prorogation?

IBTY:

Unlike the regressive left, we don't hold a person's words against them for life. The fact that the UK's new PM has seen the error of his ways and recognized Donald Trump as one of the greatest political minds of our time is all the atonement required.

Once again, Rugian shows he has literally no idea what he's talking about.

Feel free to enlighten the board with your superior knowledge of British politics, Dickhat.

Rugian:

Does it occur to you that given leaving the EU defies all economic sense, that predicting what the UK will do after we leave based on what would make economic sense is kinda flawed?

There will be no prorogation. Last time the crown attempted to rule without Parliament, the crown was abolished, and the wearer had his head removed.

The NHS will not be opened to the US or restructured. It's the closest thing you can get to a national religion.

Seb,

Leaving the British Empire made no economic sense for America back in 1776. You want to talk scary; after the war our exports fell by a fifth, while per capita incomes were anywhere between 20% and 40% lower in 1790 than they were in 1774. If we were able to stomach that, then British Independence should be a breeze by comparison.

But regardless. Just because there are non-economic factors at play in the decision-making doesn't mean mean the decision-making is incomprehensible. Bilateral treaties on WTO terms have repeatedly been stated as the end-goal.

Boris Johnson isn't a monarch and nobody's asking Lizzy II to start direct rule, so that's a bunch of hyperbole there.

When I say the NHS will be restructured, I am exaggerating somewhat. But it's not inconceivable that some contract offerings be opened to US firms.

Rugian:

Un, I think you are missing the point.

To parallel: "the 13 colonies will immediately form a military alliance with France because, having left the British empire they will be desperate to integrate with a new security gaurantour and trade partner."

*Superior* bilateral treaties were the reason. Any treaty that offers less access to US markets and worse exposure to products the UK sees as inferior is going to be terrible for any post brexit leader.
There will be pressure to hold out.

People have already decided that US food standards are terrible (they are) and the NHS is sacrosanct.

As for foreign military adventures, Brexit was an isolationist vote, and we won't be able to afford it.

Proroguing parliament is crown reserved power, and while "nobody's asking Lizzy II to start direct rule", what proroguing parliament means in the proposed context is the PM, acting as the crown, is proposing to rule directly with no legislature, or accountability to parliament. Proroguing parliament means the govt can't be subject to no confidence motions and arguably wouldn't need to hold elections (nobody left to compel them to).

It's profoundly a dictatorial act in this context.

This isn't hyperbole.

Honestly, Elizabeth II ruling directly would be more popular.

"But it's not inconceivable that some contract offerings be opened to US firms"
You realise this is already the case? What they want is for NHS to change how it buys drugs.

Not going to happen.

If you want to know why brexit is failing and get an idea about what is going on in Tory politics, you should read this article.

Lol, Boris doesn’t even want to participate in the debate with Jeremy Hunt. What kind of prime minister material is that? Someone who is running away when there is a debate and when questions are being asked.
