iChihuaha | Wed Jul 24 04:00:17 I look at the kids these days and the horrible noises they listen to and call music. I just don't get it anymore the House music, the mumble rap, I lost the thread somewhere during the early 2000's. I am trying to do my son right, teach him Dire Straits, Queen, Credence, Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, NWA, Dr Dre, Tupac, Biggie, Metallica, Elvis. What are some of your music suggestions? |

Member | Wed Jul 24 05:45:21 There's a whole lot of music from different genres to explore. I'll just name a few here that hasn't been mentioned yet but one could go on for ever. Al Green BB King Billy Idol Blacknuss Curtis Mayfield Gary Moore Helloween Håkan Hellström Iron Maiden Kool & the gang Lenny Kravitz Marvin Gaye Otis Redding Pearl Jam Phil Collins Prince Queensrÿche Sade Stevie Wonder Sting The Black Crowes The Police U2 Whitesnake I don't know if you should be careful to what you listen to around your kid. When a kid grows up he/she may rebel against his/her parents. So if he sees your Metallica and and Dire Straits albums he might start to listen to something complete opposite of that, like a future Justin Bieber or something. |

iChihuaha | Wed Jul 24 06:05:23 So I took the first thing CC wrote and clicked the first song on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwhOTNQcQq4 Fucking NICE! Gave me old school NIN vibes :) One of my favorite songs NSFW. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTFwQP86BRs Patom Electronic music can be really good, but most of the new shit, just has no soul. Para Yes maybe, but at least I can say, I tried my best. |

Member | Wed Jul 24 09:03:14 Don't trash the horrible music your kid is listening to, thats the best way to ensure he'll try to prove you wrong and stick to the trash. Maybe play some good shit on the background when you are home, like the best of creedence clearwater or Abbey Road. Musical memory is strong, kids will remember it fondly, even if they dont like it initially. And yes, I tried to listen to the stuff my older son seems to enjoy, it is not good. |

iChihuaha | Wed Jul 24 09:13:27 It all I can hope for, I play him this stuff when he is young, then he goes through a phase and hopefully he finds his way back. This was sorta my music story, I "discovered" Dire Straits in high school and then I find out apparently my parents had their albums at home. This old stuff was playing in the back ground when I grew up. |

Member | Wed Jul 24 15:09:45 My favorite band all time is the Kinks. Lately I have been listening to Dead Sara, Butcher Babies, Betty Blowtorch and bands similar. Ramones probably needs to be on the list somewhere along with some other punk bands. When I am working and have music on in the background it is usually 70s 80s rock. ELO, Blue Oyster Cult, Nazareth, Van Halen, ACDC all that kind of stuff. |

Member | Wed Jul 24 17:33:16 well first id like to say, you can't control what your kid likes. my dad loved jimmy buffet, as a kid i rejected that solely cause he loved that. now i do enjoy jimmy. some more modern stuff that i didn't see posted Bon Iver - in my opinion the best indie folk singer alive right now Of Monsters and Men - Great lyrics that take you on a trip MGMT - just great music 21 Pilots - two dudes who seem like they should be a lot less then what they actually are. their new single, the hype, shows just how much they have grown and are growing as artists Foster the people - another band that is growing and shows so much potential. |

Member | Wed Jul 24 18:23:51 Can't believe I failed to put Fleetwood Mac on the list. I know I left a lot off but I have over twenty of their albums not counting the box sets and listen to them often. Also a lot of what I call 70's AM rock is good. Bands like Moody Blues and Three Dog Night. I know those examples may be more 60's bands but they got a ton of air play in the 1970's and that is when I listened to them. Oh and throw Jefferson Airplane on the list. |

Member | Wed Jul 24 19:58:06 “Fleetwood Mac ” What FM era do you enjoy most, TJ? Peter Green blues, in between whatever style Kirwain/Welch edition or Nicks-Buckingham glory years? I don’t know any other band that changed their whole style like that, the more I read about and listen to FM, the more it defies belief. Peter Green was a a magnificent talent, it was tragic how he took lsd and went nuts, in Germany. Also an unbelievable story btw |

Member | Wed Jul 24 23:33:48 I'm a blues, ballad and soft rock fan. I like particular songs from all era's of Mac. I enjoy pretty much all genres of music. Green was a musical genius. |
