I'd like the free money

he might be a bit ahead of his time... the jobs he mentions going away may be a bit too far off (like truck drivers)

I’m not an american and I know too little about Mr Yang. But the idea of a universal income is interesting.

Making Election Day a national holiday could also be good to make more people participate in the election and go out to vote.

”During the first debate, Yang was asked only two questions and allowed to speak for two minutes and 56 seconds, the least time of any candidate.[55] He claimed that his microphone malfunctioned, initially suggesting to the debate moderators that technical difficulties might have occurred. An NBC spokesperson said, "At no point during the debate was any candidate's microphone turned off or muted",[56][57] but Yang and his supporters have provided video evidence they claim shows Yang speaking up but not being heard.”

In his closing statement, Yang called out the media and the debate format, saying:

”You know what the talking heads couldn't stop talking about after the last debate? It's not the fact that I'm somehow number four on the stage in national polling. It was the fact that I wasn't wearing a tie. Instead of talking about automation and our future, including the fact that we automated away 4 million manufacturing jobs, hundreds of thousands right here in Michigan, we're up here with makeup on our faces and our rehearsed attack lines, playing roles in this reality TV show. It's one reason why we elected a reality TV star as our president. We need to be laser-focused on solving the real challenges of today, like the fact that the most common jobs in America may not exist in a decade, or that most Americans cannot pay their bills.”

His money give away is a bad idea precisely because people like tumbleweed think it is free money.

omg free money?

wtf.

is this only for people born in usa. what if someone moves 2 the country. can he get it?
tumbleweed

Sun Aug 04 11:31:40
it's free money for most... anyone who'd be paying more than they were getting is probably someone i'm not concerned about

also it wipes out welfare & food stamps & whatever other benefits for the poor, so R's can be happy about that

and closer to the magical fairyland you (kargen) wanted for Christian values reasons

to correct my prior comment, it doesn't wipe out the programs for the poor, but they have to choose between the old benefits or the cash (and i imagine most everyone would pick the cash)

here's his page about it

What is the Freedom Dividend?

The Freedom Dividend is a form of universal basic income (UBI), a type of social security that guarantees a certain amount of money to every citizen within a given governed population, without having to pass a test or fulfill a work requirement. Every UBI plan can be different in terms of amount or design.

Andrew Yang is running for President as Democrat in 2020 to implement the Freedom Dividend. This form of UBI that he is proposing for the United States is a set of guaranteed payments of $1,000 per month, or $12,000 per year, to all U.S. citizens over the age of 18. Yes, that means you and everyone you know would get another $1,000/month every month from the U.S. government, no questions asked.

Kargen, ”His money give away is a bad idea precisely because people like tumbleweed think it is free money.”

You can see it as a tax refund.

"also it wipes out welfare & food stamps & whatever other benefits for the poor, so R's can be happy about that"

Nah he said it would reduce benefits not wipe them out.

yeah I could see it as a tax refund if I were some kind of nut. The people who would benefit from this most good chance they do not pay taxes. Even if they do the average tax payer in the US pays $10,000 so doesn't cover the $12,000 proposed.
When you take into account all the benefits available $12,000 a year would be a massive decrease for a significant portion of the population signed into the welfare system. If this guy really is a Democrat I doubt he has any real intentions of ever letting that happen.

"

so you think the very poor wouldn't even take it? sounds like it should be even more appealing to you then... benefits for everyone except the poorest... an R dreamland

plus it would even actually hurt those poor as there's a VAT tax... (not that i buy your theory myself)

-----

for what it's worth, if you read what he claims are the benefits (at link above), there's probably some you haven't even considered

There will likely be some who don’t take the dividend because they “make” far more on other welfare programs. The major difference here is that those welfare programs direct where/how that welfare is spent (gov housing, food stamps, etc.) , whereas the dividend is $1,000 no questions asked.

It’s a great way for the dems to skirt the hot topic issues like student debt and reparations as well. The dividend can be used to pay off student loans and it would put millions monthly into black communities, no different than reparations would.

No I am saying those on welfare will expect an additional twelve. When they find out it is not an additional twelve they will pitch a fit. I read the link above. He said most would prefer cash with no restriction. Only if they are stupid will they prefer the one grand a month. A single mom (liberals are always bringing up single moms) will find that $1,000 doesn't amount to much when she hits the grocery store and doesn't have a SNAP card.

And no I shouldn't find it more appealing if the very poor didn't opt in. That means one of his main ways to pay for the program falls out of the equation.
It would be more appealing if it replaced those programs with no opt out options. If he is going to claim savings from eliminating welfare programs then he needs to put eliminating those programs in the plan.

I imagine if it came to actually fully writing the thing there would be no opt out... one benefit is simplifying things and not having to determine who is eligible for what

then end as many other programs as possible

On Ben Shapiro’s show, Yang stated he wants to reverse the incentives of other welfare programs over time, eventually getting rid of the majority of them.

Go back 200 years ago and I'm betting you will find a man had to work much longer to get the necessities of life than he has to work now.

If he decided to choose a lifestyle of hunting/gathering he would probably spend near every waking moment either in search of food or preparing shelter. Living off the land is no easy task.

People can chill in the afternoons today too. I can game all weekend if I want to. If I want berries I don’t have to spend an hour searching for it in the woods, I would just go to the store. Lol. But sure, you have to work to get the moneys.

im sure i can chill all day too if u dunt have 2 work all day or worry about my next meal or rent.

yea i rather have that than wageslave all day and chill for a hours. no questions asked!!!

simply put man was not supposed 2 live like that.
700 years ago, we picked some fruits and hunted some boar and then we wuld chilllllll for days.

todays life shuldnt be any different. sure u cant go out and pick apples or shoot boards nomore.

but thats coz population exploded. we gotta be smart about this and let farmers raise pigs and apple farms etc. so we can go out and have pigmeat and apples or whatever, whenever we want without wageslavin ourselves to death.

word.

Yang: "Donald Trump - I challenge you to just about any physical or intellectual feat because you're a terrible president. And America would love to see you pass out trying to run a mile."

he tried to think of things Trump might do better than him at and came up with an eating contest & trying to keep a hot air balloon from rising

i predict he's headed up in the polls

Why would he move up in the polls? What he had going for him was some actual ideas. Twenty other candidates are all clambering for media attention by attacking President Trump. He is just one of twenty now rolling around in the muck. He did get a minute in the news though so short term I guess he got something out of it.

He has some good (and bad) ideas about gun safety but instead of hearing and talking about that what made the news was fat jokes.

Trump's able to choose intellectual challenges... anyone want to say what intellectual challenge Trump could best Yang in?

conman-ery i suppose

i predict Yang will move up as he's a good contrast, plus he was able to show emotion (although perhaps a bit too much :p) in crying about dead babies (vs Trump's grinning w/ thumbs up over dead parents)

How about a challenge that matters.

Then candidate Trump announces he is entering race then by September 2015 has 25% of a major parties support in polls.

Now candidate Yang announces entering the race and had to scramble to get 2%.

If I had to pick out of the nuts running as Democrats now he might get my vote? haven't really looked at all the candidates and won't until they get thinned out more.

Copying Biden (with the stupid challenge thing) and making fat jokes isn't going to make him stand out.

All Democrats can cry at the drop of a hat. That is Democrat 101.
