Police in Springfield, Mo., arrested a 20-year-old man wearing body armor and carrying a loaded rifle — and more than 100 rounds of ammunition — at a Walmart store Thursday. Formal charges of making a terrorist threat in the first degree are now pending against Dmitriy Andreychenko, police say.

Officers had rushed to the Walmart Neighborhood Market, responding to calls of a potential active shooter at the store. Afterwards, police said they believe Andreychenko didn't want to kill anyone, instead, he wanted to cause chaos.

"His intent was not to cause peace or comfort to anybody that was in the business here," Springfield Police Lt. Mike Lucas told journalists at the scene. "In fact, he's lucky he's alive still, to be honest."

Andreychenko seems to have been making a video of himself as he walked around the store. According to local TV station KY3, "Witnesses say he grabbed a cart and began pushing it around the store. Police say the man was recording himself walking through the store via a cell phone."

Less than a week after a gunman launched a deadly assault on a crowded Walmart in El Paso, Texas, the sudden appearance of a man wearing military-style clothing and carrying a tactical rifle set off a panic at the Walmart store in Springfield.

Store employees pulled the fire alarm and shouted for people to flee. As they did, Andreychenko followed them outside.

In the parking lot, Andreychenko was detained at the scene by an off-duty firefighter who was armed and held the man at gunpoint until police arrived, according to the Springfield Police Department. He was arrested without incident, and no injuries have been reported.

His arrest was captured on video, as customer Julie Belew filmed him from inside her car. The footage shows the young man walking down a grassy embankment, his hands over his head. Off-camera, the firefighter can be heard reporting the incident to emergency dispatchers.

"Don't touch that rifle," a man commands Andreychenko as he heads down the hill, still holding his cellphone.

Andreychenko obeyed instructions to kneel and turn around — apparently revealing that he also had a handgun in his waistband. Police arrived within minutes to take him into custody.

Andreychenko is currently being held at the Greene County jail.

not sure he technically violated the law (from description above)... but can't say it's reasonable to expect everyone to have no alarm at seeing someone doing what he was doing...

A panel of existing law abiding gun owners should vouch for each citizen for his good standing.

Each citizen in good standing shall be allowed assault rifles if they so choose.

This should remove many dumbasses and psychos, while still allowing the citizenry to defend themselves?

Good luck making those charges stick, he did nothing unlawful.

Nevermind he's fucked, that third clause is incredibly broad

(1) Communicates an express or implied threat to cause an incident or condition involving danger to life; or

(2) Communicates a false report of an incident or condition involving danger to life; or

(3) Causes a false belief or fear that an incident has occurred or that a condition exists involving danger to life.

sounds fine with me... i figured he'd skate too, but maybe not

this site adds a bit more requirements

http://law...i/chapter-574/section-574.115/

but he'd seem to fit "(1) With the purpose of frightening ten or more people" as i'm sure that's why he was filming

Plea him out for misdemeanor and community service for being a cunty troll. It's unlikely he intended to cause panic; probably one of those proud asshole gun owners who wants everyone to know how much of a duck they are. Being that oblivious deserves a wrist slapping.

He chose an unwise action to prove a point. Inconstancy...

If I were to spot someone dressed like that in a store parking lot and heading toward the entrance of a store. I believe I would be justified in running the SOB down with my vehicle. Especially if my wife were in the store.
That stupid jackass could have caused someone to have a heart attack or someone get trampled trying to get away from him.

He definitely took a risk there. It’s legal to open carry, sure — and have at it — but, if demonstrating, it would be helpful to carry the rifle on the back and/or maybe wear a t-shirt that says, “Open-carry demonstration,” or something. As is, he gave people a lot of room to misread him, which probably speaks to his immaturity or lack of awareness of his mortality (i.e., if he’d been shot, it may have proven his point, but as the article infers, his child would have been born to a widow). And all because he dislikes Walmart’s policy? It’s *Walmart*; why fight the firearms policy of a place that also sells ice cream, Nerf guns, and Star Wars action figures? For some shallow point that he probably can’t even elucidate until *after* he reads supportive comments on his Instagram?

..
[TJ Article]: “he was stopped by a hero firefighter who held him at gunpoint.“

I’m curious about their use of the word “hero” here. If the article is saying that the firefighter is a hero for holding a live troll at gunpoint, then that’s opinionated (not journalistic) and as an opinion it’s a dumb one since the danger was nonexistent. So hopefully the firefighter had a “hero” status from some prior event (unlikely) ;p

his motive is still unclear, that policy comment was made back in February

from TJs link:
"Cops told KSPR that he was filming himself while carrying the loaded rifle, another gun and ammunition and was making comments to shoppers as they fled the ‘chaotic’ scene."

those comments or what he filmed may determine what he was up to (scaring people for the lulz still on the table)

Cherub Cow, the danger was existent. Just because no one was trampled or panicked and had a heart attack doesn't mean there was not danger.

Not a danger from him is my point. No “hero” needed to intervene in this case. *If* he had been a legitimate shooter threat, then “hero” could be used, but here Rorschach could have said, “No,” to the panicky, heart-condition weaklings by not “saving” anyone, and there still would not have been shooting causalities.

So, after the fact that this moron carrying two loaded weapons wearing bullet proof vest etc. proves to only be kidding or experimenting the person who ran toward the situation and put himself at risk is not a hero. Gotcha. You are only a hero if the guy shoots at you.

Of all the people there how many others faced the moron? Was there 100, 200, 300 or more people?

The tagged hero caught him coming out of the store
without firing a shot and in a non-threatening posture from what I understand. Hero is a matter of perspective, but it is better than being called a baby killer. From my perspective hero is losing its value. No one knows what the hero would have done if the kid had come out of the store blasting away.

it would require at least a little courage to engage & point a gun at him...

they probably both are legally allowed to shoot each other under the 'fear for my life' principle
