here's why Steve King supports no abortions even for rape/incest:

"What if we went back through all the family trees and just pulled out anyone who was a product of rape or incest? Would there be any population of the world left if we did that? Considering all the wars and all the rapes and pillages that happened throughout all these different nations, I know that I can't say that I was not a part of a product of that."

we must have rape/incest babies for the continuation of the species seems to be his conclusion

note: i am not doubting Steve King is a product of much rape & incest, just his conclusions that it has any relevance to abortion or human survival

He's not necessarily wrong, but it is not a de facto benefit that it happened.

But hey, at least the Mongols were around to pillage the Islamic world!

"We have identified a Y-chromosomal lineage with several unusual features. It was found in 16 populations throughout a large region of Asia, stretching from the Pacific to the Caspian Sea, and was present at high frequency: ∼8% of the men in this region carry it, and it thus makes up ∼0.5% of the world total. The pattern of variation within the lineage suggested that it originated in Mongolia ∼1,000 years ago. Such a rapid spread cannot have occurred by chance; it must have been a result of selection. The lineage is carried by likely male-line descendants of Genghis Khan, and we therefore propose that it has spread by a novel form of social selection resulting from their behavior."

"He's not necessarily wrong"

It doesn't matter if his assertion is right or wrong. His conclusion is batshit crazy.

I mean, "half a billion (who knows what the actual number is) people are alive today because of rape centuries ago" is a factual statement

Who was disputing that? It's not a valid argument to support his stance on rape abortions.

Oh, for sure. Was just pointing out that having another half billion people around today isn't automatically a good thing, beyond a, "At least I got mine" statement; which his premise rests on.

King should contact Larry Lockman of Maine. Kindred spirits for sure.

yeah, he isnt justifying or condoning rape. it is explaining that aborting everyone who is a product of rape or incest would not have been a good thing to do historically. it is a fairly standard position for anyone who believes in the sanctity of life.

i guess when the OP titles a thread claiming a guy is touting the benefits of rape, i take the natural leap that OP is claiming this guy is condoning rape.

but you are the king of semantics so it comes as no surprise you would actually try to argue the difference.

My question is how many of those women that were raped would have eventually had children anyway and how many would have opted to never have children. I'm not buying the argument at all. It is a stupid argument. And in the context in which it was presented it is all the more stupid.

Might as well argue if Genghis Khan had been aborted the population would be much larger now because there would have been many many more people alive to have children.

"i guess when the OP titles a thread claiming a guy is touting the benefits of rape, i take the natural leap that OP is claiming this guy is condoning rape."

Because nobody has ever made a hyperbolic statement on these boards ever. And certainly nobody has put that hyperbole in the title.

Also, it would have taken about a minute to read the thread and realize that nobody suggested the retard was condoning rape.

My first thought was also that he is not technically wrong. But also his argument is heavily based on arbitrary definitions of "rape" and "incest," which are essentially legal terms that have changed over the centuries and didn't even exist if you go back far enough.

To take it to the extreme, yes, we are all products of incest because at some point in our evolutionary history (we're billions of individual organisms) all it takes is ONE of our ancestors to have banged his sister. So yeah, we are all the products of incest (which is more easily defined than rape).

But this is a STUPID argument against abortion. Just because something happened in the past doesn't mean it should continue. My god!

"Durrrrrrrr, the Matrix is good for humanity because, like, it feeds people and keeps them alive."
