Left-wing activists trying to hijack kids’ minds with ‘ethnic studies’

By Betsy McCaughey August 22, 2019 | 7:49pm | Updated

President Trump said last week that “we are all Americans. We all share the same home” and “the same heart.” He warned that “radical Democrats are trying to tear this country apart” with identity politics.

Left-wing activists are using the same divisive ideology to hijack our kids’ young minds. Across the country, leftists are demanding public schools teach “ethnic studies.” Many of these courses demonize America, label whites as oppressors and indoctrinate students to become “social justice organizers.”

California Democrats are pushing to make ethnic studies a high school graduation requirement statewide. Their draft curriculum defines ethnic studies as the “experiences of people of color in the United States” and the “forms of oppression” they’ve endured.

The California course urges students to become “agents of change” and mandates that all students complete an “engagement/action project.” Astoundingly, the course guide suggests only one project to meet this requirement: promoting “voting rights for undocumented immigrant residents” in local elections.

The curriculum tars white students — by dint of their whiteness — as oppressors. The course calls for “the privilege walk,” an exercise to teach white students about privileges they take for granted. “Whiteness” is defined as “more than a racial identity marker, it separates those that are privileged from those that are not.” White kids will have to endure this harassment to graduate.

Meanwhile, the course encourages minorities to think of themselves as oppressed. No mention of success stories like Supreme Court Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Clarence Thomas. No explanation for why millions around the globe of all races clamor to get into America.

The curriculum frames American capitalism as a system in which “people of color are disproportionately exploited.” Never mind that capitalism has lifted billions of people of color out of poverty.

Educators could point to billionaire real estate titan Jorge Perez, who built most of the Miami skyline, or former Citigroup and Time Warner CEO Richard Parsons as business role models for minority students. Instead the curriculum is one-sided, Marxian indoctrination.

To what end? To brainwash the next generation of voters into becoming leftist Democrats.

California’s curriculum, drafted by teachers and college professors, nearly slipped through without scrutiny, except that Jews in the state legislature noticed the curriculum condemned Islamophobia but not anti-Semitism. Parents and the public, who foot the bill for public schools, need to wake up and demand more control over what’s being taught.

Don’t leave curriculum reform to self-proclaimed professionals. The National Education Association, the largest teachers union, endorses reparations for slavery, Black Lives Matter and other divisive concepts. If parents want their children to learn the basics, without brainwashing, they need to win seats on local and statewide school boards.

The push for ethnic studies is a tidal wave, from Oregon to Indiana, to individual school districts like Bridgeport, Conn. Here in New York City, Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza prioritizes social justice ideology far above reading, writing and arithmetic.

What should students be taught? There’s no denying the horrible injustice of slavery, discrimination and other stains on America’s past. But teach American history objectively, the good and bad together, emphasizing how the nation’s founding ideals can help us overcome our shortcomings. Teaching kids they are victims won’t help them pass the Regents or succeed in life.

At its worst, ethnic studies also trashes the melting pot ideal, labeling American holidays and customs as Eurocentric and white. Such ideas, concocted by university professors, are now being served up to our kids.

Today all Americans who share a vision of opportunity, common values and color-blind justice need to recognize what’s happening in schools and stop it by taking control of school boards. The left’s push for ethnic studies — really, grievance studies — poses a serious threat to the America we hold dear.

This is all of our futures if far-left Democrats ever retake the White House.

Instead of building things, the left is being taught to whine for handouts for a living. RIP economy.

”By Betsy McCaughey”

Elizabeth McCaughey (/məˈkɔɪ/; born Elizabeth Helen Peterken, October 20, 1948),[2] formerly known as Betsy McCaughey Ross, is an American politician ...

In August 2016 the Donald Trump presidential campaign announced that she had joined the campaign as an economic adviser.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betsy_McCaughey

Okay...
1. Joined the Trump campaign
2. Wikipedia says she has written earlier articles containing false ”facts”, i.e. lies.

Conclusion...
1. I think we can dismiss this article as right-winged propaganda.
2. This article probably contains at least one lie.

Betsy McCaughey (R- Paid Liar):: Obstructionist Republican Clown

Jason Linkins: Huffpost: 10/6/09

Betsy McCaughey is a famous liar whom the media keep inviting on their programs to continue to lie about health care, instead of banishing her to some wilderness, where she belongs, to lie to woodland creatures.

Okay... so she’s a known liar and clown.

Thats fine, I'll just assume that your accusations have been withdrawn then. In the meantime, I'm willing to read it for you.

Here's some choice definitions from the glossary. I sure am glad the California legislature wants to make this mandatory learning for students in the country's largest state!

----

Whiteness- a social construct that has served as the foundation for racialization in the United States. Whiteness is the antithesis of Blackness, and is commonly associated with those that identify as white. However, Whiteness is much more than a racial identity marker, it separates those that are privileged from those that are not. Whiteness can manifest as a social, economic, political, and cultural behavior and power. For example, the “standard” or cultural “norm” are often always based on whiteness and by extension white culture, norms, and values.

----

Capitalism- an economic and political system in which industry and trade are based on a “free market” and largely controlled by private companies instead of the government. Within Ethnic Studies, scholars are often very critical of the system of capitalism as research has shown that Native people and people of color are disproportionately exploited within the system. In a capitalist economy, surplus value (profit) is generated from human labor and everything is commodified.

----

Race- a social construct created by European and American pseudo-scientists which sorts people by phenotype into global, social, and political hierarchies.

----

People of color- someone who is not white. People of color as a collective identity emerged as a response to systemic racism and to assert resistance and solidarity against white supremacy. People of color are a global majority.

----

Hxrstory- pronounced the same as “herstory,” hxrstory is used to describe history written from a more gender inclusive perspective. The “x” is used to disrupt the often rigid gender binarist approach to telling history.

----

Cisheteropatriarchy- a system of power that is based on the dominance of cisheterosexual men.

----

Gender- western culture has come to view gender as a binary concept, with two rigidly fixed options— men and women. Instead of the static binary model produced through a solely physical understanding of gender, a far richer tapestry of biology, gender expression, and gender identity intersect resulting in a multidimensional array of possibilities. Thus, gender can also be recognized as a spectrum that is inclusive of various gender identities.

----

Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS)- is a global social movement that currently aims to establish freedom for Palestinians living under apartheid conditions. Inspired by tactics employed during the South African anti-apartheid movement, the Palestinian-led movement calls for the boycott, divestment, and sanctioning of the Israeli government until it complies with International law. BDS proponents and organizers have called for the global community to boycott or withdraw support from Israel and companies associated with it. The second component of BDS calls for governments, banks, universities, and other institutions to withdraw monetary support (divestment) from Israel and its companies. And finally, the third component—sanctions—asks international governments to hold Israel accountable for its actions through legislation, trade and military agreements, among other measures.

What it sounds like is an entirely one-sided view of the subject. I'd also question why students need to be taught about the movement in the first place.

This is state-sanctioned advocacy for a political movement, pure and simple.

All of the tumblrinas of 2012 finished their education degrees and got into the California bureaucracy and started their toxic advocacy.

Forwyn,

Why restrict your criticism to the bureaucracy? The California lower house has already approved making it mandatory for high schools to take this ethnic studies class, and the Senate was on track to follow had Jewish groups not stepped in and complained that the class wasn't focusing their struggles enough.

California as a state is lost to us.

Yeah,

The established party has started to embrace this lunacy wholesale - and it hit the mainstream very, very quickly. Anyone who rejects it is "muh far right"

What makes all those things you listed so difficult is that most of them contain a kernel of truth wrapped in a much bigger turd. It makes debate with these people tricky and requires alot of effort as they will bait and switch.
