I also liked 'The Young Pope'(also HBO).. an unusual show but Jude Law plays an interesting character

the second season was called The New Pope, was not quite as good imo but still decent if you liked first season

and HBOs 'Barry' is also unusual (but not in the same way as Pope*) and good, a particular masterpiece episode in season 2

* I'm not a good reviewer :p

Westworld?

I think the new season starts soon - maybe this weekend.

I was a fan of the first season of Westworld, but it absolutely should not have been extended beyond that. The second season was a huge pile of nothing.

The Young Pope was an entertaining show, though clearly subversive and anti-Catholic. The New Pope was boring and I abandoned it halfway through.

(they also went over the top on trying to be shocking - as much as Jude Law's ego might have been happy with the first scene being a nun getting so turned on by touching the pope that she couldn't help masturbating [three fingers!], it pretty much set the tone that the new season was going to be shlock)

judging from the trailer for 3rd season of Westworld, things change a lot in the 2nd season (i didn't see 2nd season either, just first episode which didn't capture my interest)

i'll agree the New Pope weak... but gets a bit better at end... but stopping w/ The Young Pope is easily defensible :p

A couple ppl may not have seen yet since they were Starz originals:
Black Sails - 38 episodes, concluded
Counterpart - 20 episodes, cancelled

Both are great.

I just had a total knee replacement so am stuck in the house with knee elevated several hours a day. I've been watching Jessica Jones. When I finish that if I still can't get out and about I might watch Sneaky Pete again.

I haven't watched the 2nd season of Altered Carbon yet but probably will wait on that one a while. Season one was good.

I started watching Penny Dreadful quite a while back and probably will give it another try. I have all kinds of things on my list but don't watch a lot of tv normally so way behind on things.

Spartacus was great. Egregious violence and sex. With decent plot and characters too. What more could you ask for?

"Rugian

Chernobyl "

Correct. Alas it is just 5 episodes. But 5 epidodes of kickass. Especially 1 and 5.

Idk, I seen a little bit of Spartacus ( blood and sand?) Rome was infinitely better.

"Rome" HBO/BBC fantastic. Unfortunately only two seasons because HBO said it was too expensive which it was the most expensive HBO show to make until Gots.

Ya rome was good. They also got to the end of the story though. Cleopatra and antony are dead, the rebel fleet shattered and the rebel army surrendered.

Whats next? Here is augustus ruling for the remainder of his long life and bringing peace and prosperity to empire?

Boring!

"Roman law."

Yeah Rome was great while it lasted.

yeah the creators of rome wanted to go 4/5 seasons to fully establish antony in egypt and the shit he got up to there prior to instigating augustus to attack him. they ultimately wanted it to end with the rise of jesus and how rome dealt with him.

I watched the first episode of season 3. It was fine, though I didn't hate season 2 (it wasn't nearly as good as season 1, though).

In all honesty, Westworld has a big problem providing characters that you give a shit about. Even in season 1, I wasn't invested in a single character. That continues through season 3.

i liked young william and his relationship with dolores in season 1. i think aaron paul's character is gonna echo that relationship but he wont turn bad like william did, he isnt naive and he has seen war but he still has faith and compassion for humanity. he will probably end up having to kill dolores as she ends up following williams path as a naive person who sees human nature and ends up just wanting to end it all.

Sort of spoilers for Westworld, I guess, maybe, whatever. The world is burning.

Westworld season 2 is definitely worth watching.

It is not quite as good as season 1. Part of that is that it's not some newly (re)made thing to put your brain into a novelty feeding frenzy and FIRE ALL THE NEURONS! Aside from that, to me it suffers a bit in comparison from feeling the need to have its own, different variation on the non-linear passage of time (henceforth: time gimmick). IMO, it isn't as well done as the season one time gimmick; that one was better handled, felt like it came with a better payoff, and didn't really get in the way of you didn't catch it. Being charitable, the disjointed "wait, when is this happening?" version does fit one character's story well - it's just not as nifty and it's more in your face as opposed to just sitting there waiting for you to put down your phone and pay attention with your puny human mind and inferior organic intellect.

My other main season 2 bitch was with the humans' big battle strategy. Probably seemed like a neat idea when they picked it, "aha, a way to turn the tables on the OP headshot aimbot superhuman bullet sponges!", just not that fun/interesting to watch. Guess it served the purpose of "people be dicks sometimes too", but meh.

Time gimmick and big bad meatbag weapon aside, season two had plenty of host badassery and in the grand scheme of second seasons, was barely a drop off. It's nothing like True Detective season 1 -> season 2, Sons of Anarchy copping out because they realized Ron Perlman was the most interesting person on their show, etc.

Season 3 looks like it will be solid based on first episode. Nearish future setting is well done (just as good as Minority Report was at the time, and people lost their shit about that - and this on TV). The underworld side of it has a bit of a Shadowrunner vibe. Season 2 was better than most things on TV and season 3 probably will be too. Seems like maybe the hosts got nerfed a little bit to make the fight fairer, but maybe they are just being cunning. Literally nobody knows right now! We'll all find out together at the same time if humanity doesn't get cancelled mid-season.

Rugian probably liked season 2 about 80% less than season one because Thandie Newton, a strong and beautiful woman of colour, had approximately 80% fewer violent deaths. This sin he cannot forgive.

Don't listen to his opinions, they're bad. He never recovered after he was spurned and left alone in his dotage. He is old and weak and has nothing left in him but his malice.

Can the internet withstand the coronavirus pandemic?

With more people staying and working at home in an attempt to slow the virus' spread, concern is growing about whether the net has the bandwidth to withstand increased usage.

Those concerns have led Netflix to reduce the data in its video streams in Europe for 30 days, the streaming video provider said Thursday.

European Union commissioner Thierry Breton had raised the issue with Netflix CEO Reed Hastings and suggested via Twitter that people at home not stream video in high definition if they can and instead watch in standard definition.

"Teleworking & streaming help a lot but infrastructures might be in strain," Breton tweeted Wednesday. "To secure Internet access for all, let's #SwitchToStandard definition when HD is not necessary."

my mom and sister have recommended me to watch tiger king. ive seen parts, it seems too absurd to be real, but as people actually are in jail, it must be real. apparently a stat is there are more tigers in captivity in the states than there are tigers in the wild.

also, the kingdom is a chinese show, that seems like too much work to read subtitles for however many hours the show is.

If you're too stupid to read subtitles, you're probably stupid enough to appreciate Tiger King. You might even catch one of your relatives in there somewhere.

yes, i am too stupid to read subtitles, that is exactly what i wrote SD. Not that I was dismissive of the amount of work it would require to read subtitles for however many hours the show is. good observation, SD.

As for subtitles, I was turned off by a series with all sub titles, I don't mind movies ( shoplifters was great) but that's asking a lot , especially of an action show.

I haven't kept up with new tv shows in a long time. I downloaded all the best shows in high-quality 1080p rips and have yet to finish even half of them.

And I am hesitant to watch any show in fear that they completely fuck up the ending and ruin the rest of the show. The Walking Dead. Battlestar Galactica. Lots of shows with great beginning that became fucking turds at the end.

I do really like short mini-series though like Cherynobl. At least they don't fuck around with constant cliffhangers (hello new star trek).
