Why does the white house say that trump does not need to tested? Is it because the US already developed a vaccine for Corona before they infected China with the virus, and Trump has been vaccinated which is why he does not need to be tested?

“We have an agreement that reflects what the president talked about in his speech the other night,” Mr. Mnuchin said on Fox News. He said Mr. Trump was focused on making sure “hard-working Americans don’t lose their compensation because they have to be home.”

The measure includes TWO WEEKS of PAID SICK LEAVE and up to THREE MONTHS of PAID family and medical leave, enhanced unemployment benefits, FREE VIRUS TESTING including for those who lack insurance, additional FOOD AID and federal funds for Medicaid.

I tried several times to get Corona but no luck so far. Was at a GBH concert yesterday as I knew it would be the last concert I would be able to see for several months. Both the club and GBH cancelled all events for the upcoming time.

I will report if I develop symptoms in the next few days. I will give my login data to my brother just in case I die.
8 dead now in Germany, I will not make it among the first 10, I will be just one dead in the masses, cremated and burried in a mass grave and forgotten.
I will spend my last days watching Corona porn...

the petty child didn't want to get tested (as the fake news / enemy of the people media thought he should)

but perhaps adults convinced him he better check otherwise could be infecting all sorts of people as he doesn't practice the social distancing he advocates or avoid handshakes etc (as he's an oblivious child)

supposedly test came back negative (not that that's any more trustworthy than a report from Kim Jong Un)

French ICU patient age seems supremely irrelevant.

They probably admit everyone who complains enough.

Europe's failure to stop it from spreading uncontrollably is unfortunate but not particularly horrible.

But why international travel hasn't been banned yet is beyond me.

Should have been banned weeks ago. Of all measures that inconvenience the public, it is by far the easiest and least disruptive.
Dukhat

Pillz so fucking stupid. Travel bans are the most ineffective thing against this. There are so many ways to dodge them. They buy you maybe a few days and after community spread, they achieve nothing.

Most effective way to stop is to have fucking testing so people can know to stay home but there are so many selfish asshats in America, this thing can’t help but spread like wildfire.

Wow, such deflection.

The only thing wrong with the Communist stats is that they inflated them over the course of a day by using clinical diagnoses instead of test results to clear backlogs of suspected cases.

So they have 81k cases instead of actually confirmed 65k.

Indeed, hence my pointing out that China inflated their cases. Their method is not comparable to how the rest of the world counts confirmed cases.

There are videos of people being wielded inside their homes to ensure they kept their curfews.

Draconian measures do need some basis in statistics to be supported.

FUCK THE USA!

http://www...away-firm-seeking-vaccine.html

Berlin is trying to stop Washington from persuading a German company seeking a coronavirus vaccine to move its research to the United States, prompting German politicians to insist no country should have a monopoly on any future vaccine.

Germany’s Health Ministry confirmed a report in newspaper Welt am Sonntag, which said President Donald Trump had offered funds to lure the company CureVac to the United States, and the German government was making counter-offers to tempt it to stay.

“The German government is very interested in ensuring that vaccines and active substances against the new coronavirus are also developed in Germany and Europe,” the newspaper quoted a Health Ministry official as saying.

“In this regard, the government is in intensive exchange with the company CureVac.”

Contacted by Reuters, a spokeswoman for the German Health Ministry said: “We confirm the report in the Welt am Sonntag.”

Welt am Sonntag quoted an unidentified German government source as saying Trump was trying to secure the scientists’ work exclusively, and would do anything to get a vaccine for the United States, “but only for the United States.”

There was no comment immediately available from the U.S. embassy in Berlin when contacted by Reuters on Sunday over the report, and nobody was available to comment at CureVac. Welt am Sonntag said CureVac declined to comment.

Florian von der Muelbe, CureVac’s chief production officer and co-founder, told Reuters last week the company had started with a multitude of coronavirus vaccine candidates and was now selecting the two best to go into clinical trials.

The privately-held company based in Tuebingen, Germany hopes to have an experimental vaccine ready by June or July to then seek the go-ahead from regulators for testing on humans.

On its website, CureVac said CEO Daniel Menichella early this month met Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, members of the White House Coronavirus Task Force and senior representatives of pharmaceutical and biotech companies to discuss a vaccine.

Karl Lauterbach, a professor of health economics and epidemiology who is also a senior lawmaker with the Social Democrats, junior partners in Chancellor Angela Merkel’s coalition, tweeted in reaction to the Welt am Sonntag report:

“The exclusive sale of a possible vaccine to the USA must be prevented by all means. Capitalism has limits.”

Even the CDC best-case scenario is now terrifying.

96 million infected. 480k dead. About 17% could require hospitalization and about 5% ICU care. 2.4 million to 21 million are expected to need hospitalization. We only have 1 million hospital beds and less than a tenth are for those who are critically ill.

We are so fucked. Mattis and John Kelly held on as long as they could to ensure that Trump would not be in charge during a huge crisis. But here we are and we are fucked in the ass x1000.

Moscow Mitch decided to delay signing Pelosi's emergency paid leave bill after sabotaging it with abortion restrictions and making sure that paid leave didn't apply to all the companies that donated to him.

Moscow Mitch wants this to go away too because he knews if they test, they will start getting thousands of deaths a day confirmed due to Coronavirus. It's the same reason why he won't do anything about Russian interference.

96 million infected means about 15-20 million hospitalizations, 5 million in ICU and about half of those dead given what we've seen in other countries.

So the CDC numbers don't add up. I assume they are underplaying to prevent panic.

jergul

A caseload infers hospitalization. So a rolling 1 million infected and 100k in hospital.

So that would be what? 14 days average hospitalization since it corresponds nicely with typical infection times (we think).

26 million infected a year. Dragging on forever if we assume reinfection.

I would question most of all on why there is an expectation that the caseload would stop at 100k or so.

It will not stop at that with a semi quarantine.

Let's hope there is no reinfection. The reports of reinfection could be explained by viral shedding or simple misdiagnosis. There has been no reliable clinical studies done.

Most Coronaviruses do give survivors immunity though a mutation can make a person susceptible again. Also someone exposed to a lot of different infected people will have a very high viral load and be very vulnerable.

***

A vaccine will take about a year anyways even in the best of circumstances. 18 months is typical with trials. 6 months is possible if Trump just decides to go fuck it with safety in order to increase his chances of re-election.

Our best hope is for stupid shits to take this seriously once people start dying and actually practice social distance. It will take another 1 month. Too many MAGA retards. Fox News has done a 180 and is more concerned about the virus now. A week ago it was plastering Trump's hoax argument across the frontpage and showing testimonials of people who recovered.

Our 2nd best hope is that an effective treatment comes drugs we already have on hand. Chloroquine and Recedemvir (Spelling*) have been promising.

Try not to get this thing. It causes lung scarring and organ damage in some people but that is usually the case when recovering from a cytokine storm.

re: that story above of Trump attempting to bribe Germans to create a vaccine just for us

sounds fully credible... and once he celebrated the vaccine creation (taking personal credit), he'd then offer to other countries but fully expecting favors (including personal ones)

just like he did for permitting earned funeral honors to a dead guy... or congressionally ordered military aid to Ukraine... also recall he expected media to treat him favorably for giving them higher ratings in debates... & who knows how many private extortion/bribery deals he's done

the dystopian Biff Tannen future in Back to the Future 2 was based on Trump, only they didn't go nearly evil enough

"The pictures you may have seen only begin to capture the chaos. There was no attempt to enable social distancing; we were packed closely together. Two giant queues of people — one for U.S. citizens and green-card holders and one for foreign nationals — wound their way through the cavernous hall. I counted and came up with approximately 450 people in each section, for a total of just under a thousand. Many were coughing, sneezing and looking unwell.

...

When I inched closer to the front, I could see that a scant six immigration desks were in service. Two additional desks to the left had less traffic. These are ordinarily for people in wheelchairs; now, the wheelchairs were mixed in with the rest. When I asked a security guard about the other lines, he told me they were for people with a confirmed corona diagnosis. There was no separation for this group — no plastic sheets, not even a bit of distance. When your line snaked to the left, you were inches away from the infected."

"I recently flew to Qatar for a meeting. Immediately upon disembarking, passengers walked past a temperature measuring device to identify those with a fever, so they could be segregated out before entering public areas. Dulles had no such plan. Instead, after the agent examined your passport, he pointed a thermometer device at your forehead. By that time, you would have spent three hours in close contact with hundreds of other people. Even the way the lines were organized, snaking around, might have been designed to ensure that one sick person would expose the maximum number of others.

Some of the agents were asking people to use the fingerprint screen — all fingers, then the thumbs. Mine didn’t, but I watched the adjoining one and was astounded to see that the screen was not wiped, sprayed or in any way sanitized between individuals, or indeed at all during the hour I had it in my line of sight. My agent asked me how I felt (the true answer would have been upset by your colossal ineptitude) and if I had been to China or Italy. (I had not.)

That was it. No instruction to maintain a two-week self-quarantine. No phone number to call if I felt symptoms — standard in Europe for several weeks. After being immersed in our three-hour virus incubator, we were unleashed on the American public, free to mingle. This had to be going on all day and further into the night, as flights kept landing and the immigration hall kept filling with new passengers."

You are envisioning a Wohan style quarantine in the US? Its very labour intensive and involves wielders and carpenters sealing people inside their homes.

Right now, the only thing keeping your confirmed cases down is the lack of testing capacity.

Wohan resolved the deficit by treating clinical diagnoses as confirmed cases.

You think you have a political environment were that will ever happen?

I think the best chance we have now is to be aggressive with drugs that don't have much clinical evidence like chloroquine.

And we'll have to make our ventilators do 5-10x the work by sharing them with valves.

It'll be a shit show and expensive but we have no choice.

I just hope our fucking orange retard lets the adults take over and do these precautions now instead of later.

Sammy is saying its not going to get bad because of a pseudo-quarantine.

That is true if and only if the pseudo-quarantine sammy is talking about means not testing people to keep the number of confirmed infected down.

Try not to brainstorm solutions, mkay?

The limiting factor is qualified personnel more than it is hardware.

Data shows that mortality increases 10 fold once heath care is overwhelmed. Stuff that tweaks down mortality will not help at all if the system is buried in cases.

Its not something you can cure with bags of money. Even wall street gets that.

This disease takes like 4 weeks to kill. The virus hasn't been in the west that long. And triage always prioritizes younger people. Mortality rates for people up to age 60 is around .2% which is several times higher than the flu already. So I'm not sure why you're looking for a single case.

You do know that all a quaratine means is that this will drag on for 18 months until a vaccine is rolled out and we can pretend getting sick no longer matters?

Covid-19 is pandemic and in practical terms endemic. We can slow transmission rates by harsh measures, but only for as long as harsh measures remain in place.
