Will people start killing eachother? Will men with guns rob people of their toilet papers? Will people smash windows and steal food? |

Theyre all domestically produced. Toilet paper is also domestically produced. There aren't enough drivers to move stock from manufacturer to distributor to store. Stocks being shorted not because it isn't there, it's just become a choice of moving a little of everything down the line rather than use the entire fleet just to ship toilet paper or pasta to stores. |

Koch Industries, one of America’s largest private companies with more than $110 billion in total revenue, is run by Charles Koch, the conservative billionaire behind Americans for Prosperity who’s now worth $40.6 billion by Forbes’ estimates. (His brother David died last summer.) Consumer-related panic buying due to COVID-19 has caused “a significant increase in orders beginning last week,” Fernando Gonzalez, president of Georgia-Pacific’s consumer business, explained by email. “These increases have been as high as two times our normal demand.” However, Georgia-Pacific also sells its toilet tissue to hotels and businesses, and the B2B part of its business has been softer; the company expects those sales to decline as consumers ditch their business travel and vacation plans. |

rank | Tue Mar 17 00:46:25 2020 And I do mean everything. The only products we have left are soft drinks, sauces (teriyaki, ranch, whatever you name it), hot peppers and pickled onions, expensive ass crackers for cheese and dip, cake decorating icing/sprinkles, jams & confections were mostly untouched, coffee beans, and surprisingly juice was destroyed but not left barren. Took 3 days but even the taco section was cleared. Like imagine having to refill hundreds of stores from bone zero to full, while meeting shelf-stripping demand daily. Impossible. Not enough people at any level of the supply chain. Our store is, for better or worse, extremely well versed at doing this and very experienced at odd delivery schedules and day time packing. We probably broke a world record yesterday 28 pallets in 4 hours during peak business hours. But my director and I, while we hate each other, absolutely agree in how to handle a day time grocery order. So I got to build a pallet wall around 6 aisles down the middle of the store and we both yell at clerks for sucking dick and at customers for trying to break the perimeter while we tore it down and spread it. Actually working during the apocalypse is awesome. Unfortunately business is back to normal for now. I get to leave the company with credit from the director (who hates me) for helping to not only carry us (companies most devastated store) through the 3 day pandemonium but also the spectacular recovery. I mean other stores were left in much worse positions then us, but we had the largest overall volume increase. We're just used to being fucked in the ass I guess. |

We dont have time to clinically confirm ourselves but hopefully, this makes things better. The drug helps prevents lung fibrosis and hospitalization in many patients. |
jergul
rank | Tue Mar 17 03:10:23 2020 Dukhat What are you even on about? Chloroquine is for hospital treatment after people have developed pnemonia. It does not prevent hospitalization. Or is your idea to send people home with pnemonia with a jar of pills? That would be part of the 10 fold increase in mortality once hospitals are overwhelmed. Perhaps the pills will help turn it into a 9 fold increase in mortality. |
Forwyn
rank | Tue Mar 17 03:35:37 2020 You don't need massive state of the art hospitals to treat pneumonia. Field tents, vents, and yeah, medication to reduce symptoms like scarring and secondary infections. Open-air is better anyway. Again, perfect time of year for this to hit. |

Forwyn
rank | Tue Mar 17 05:20:54 2020 jergul The bottleneck isn't in floor space, it's in staffing. Secondary bottleneck is the number of vents for cases serious enough to warrant hospitalization in the first place. Army is sitting on thousands of field tents. Vents can be mass-produced, alongside cheap oximeters that virtually every nurse is carrying in their scrubs for accurate diagnosis and triage. But the number of nurses and doctors churned out each year is fixed. Programs are full every year and competitive. This can only be partially alleviated by deploying DoD medical units. Most NG medical workers are already civilian medical workers by trade. |
hood
rank | Tue Mar 17 06:14:34 2020 "But the number of nurses and doctors churned out each year is fixed. Programs are full every year and competitive." This isn't true. Most programs are specifically tailored to cull the herd, to churn out a limited number of nurses and doctors. Now, doctors can't just be belched out of medical school, but a crash course for specialized nurses to get boots on the ground against covid wouldn't be too difficult. |

rank | Tue Mar 17 20:03:40 2020 Jews are smart, we should do the same http://www...ng-quarantine-orders-1.8681979 The Israeli government unanimously passed in the early hours of Tuesday new emergency regulations for tracking the cellphones of coronavirus patients or those suspected of being infected, circumventing the approval of the Knesset in the process. Ministers authorized the move despite the Justice Ministry's commitment to have it go through the Israeli parliament, which did not have the time to deliberate on the matter. The regulations sanction the Israel Police to track the cellphones of individuals who tested positive with the virus, or those who are suspected of having caught the disease. On Saturday, following Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's announcement that these means will be implemented, the Shin Bet said the technology would not be used to enforce quarantine. Published in the dead of night in the state records, despite initially being slated to be confidential, the regulations stated that there will be no need for a court order to collect the data. Normally, a court order is required for something like cellphone tracking, as it is considered a serious invasion of privacy if there is no basis for it. According to the regulations, the data would be used to notify people who may have come into contact with someone infected with the virus and to enforce quarantine orders. |

rank | Tue Mar 17 20:45:14 2020 Boris had to think again: http://www...coronavirus-uk-strategy-deaths The UK only realised "in the last few days" that attempts to "mitigate" the impact of the coronavirus pandemic would not work, and that it needed to shift to a strategy to "suppress" the outbreak, according to a report by a team of experts who have been advising the government. The report, published by the Imperial College COVID-19 Response Team on Monday night, found that the strategy previously being pursued by the government — dubbed "mitigation" and involving home isolation of suspect cases and their family members but not including restrictions on wider society — would "likely result in hundreds of thousands of deaths and health systems (most notably intensive care units) being overwhelmed many times over". The mitigation strategy "focuses on slowing but not necessarily stopping epidemic spread — reducing peak healthcare demand while protecting those most at risk of severe disease from infection", the report said, reflecting the UK strategy that was outlined last week by Boris Johnson and the chief scientific adviser Patrick Vallance. But the approach was found to be unworkable. "Our most significant conclusion is that mitigation is unlikely to be feasible without emergency surge capacity limits of the UK and US healthcare systems being exceeded many times over," perhaps by as much as eight times, the report said. In this scenario, the Imperial College team predicted as many as 250,000 deaths in Britain. "In the UK, this conclusion has only been reached in the last few days," the report explained, due to new data on likely intensive care unit demand based on the experience of Italy and Britain so far. "We were expecting herd immunity to build. We now realise it’s not possible to cope with that," professor Azra Ghani, chair of infectious diseases epidemiology at Imperial, told journalists at a briefing on Monday night. As a result, the report — which its authors said had "informed policymaking in the UK and other countries in the last weeks" — said: "We therefore conclude that epidemic suppression is the only viable strategy at the current time." A suppression strategy, along the lines of the approach adopted by the Chinese authorities, "aims to reverse epidemic growth, reducing case numbers to low levels and maintaining that situation indefinitely". It requires "a combination of social distancing of the entire population, home isolation of cases and household quarantine of their family members", and "may need to be supplemented by school and university closures". An "intensive intervention package" will have to be "maintained until a vaccine becomes available (potentially 18 months or more)", the report said, painting an extraordinary picture of what life could be like in the UK for the next year and a half. On Monday afternoon, the prime minister drastically tightened the measures imposed on the British public — signalling the UK's move to a suppression strategy. Everyone in the UK should now stop "non-essential contact" with other people and avoid pubs, clubs, cinemas, and theatres to slow the spread of the coronavirus, Johnson announced. Families have also been urged to stay at home together for 14 days if any member is showing symptoms of the virus — a new, continuous cough or a fever. Johnson said that anyone in isolation should avoid leaving the house "even to buy food or essentials" and should exercise outside the house only at a safe distance from others. A government spokesperson said: “This is a very fast-moving situation. In order to give the most robust scientific advice SAGE [the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies] draws upon and considers a range of evidence and views to reach its recommendations. Part of this evidence includes the latest modelling data from a number of experts. All SAGE recommendations are in line with the best current evidence. We will be publishing further evidence shortly.” |

Hummel’s lawyer requested a stay of execution in a unique court filing Friday because of the spread of COVID-19 and the state's disaster declaration, arguing that the disease has impacted his ability to carry out last-minute investigations. rank | Wed Mar 18 22:45:59 2020 Well median age Germany 47.4 Italy 45.8 http://www.indexmundi.com/germany/demographics_profile.html http://www.indexmundi.com/italy/demographics_profile.html I think hospital bed ratio may play a role. Its one of the few numbers to stick out to me. Italy 3 Germany 11 I forget the exact numbers but either way thats a big difference. |

rank | Wed Mar 18 22:58:49 2020 Correction Germany was 8.3 on beds. Not 11. Thats health expenditure with is about 2% mkre than Italy at 9%. |

rank | Wed Mar 18 23:26:24 2020 http://www...ates/demographics_profile.html If that is an issue as I suspect the US is 2.9, less than Italy ( ablut the same) The something the US does have though is military ships/bases that can help supplement. But it is still worrisome. |

rank | Wed Mar 18 23:29:21 2020 The US is also much younger than Germany or Italy at 38.2. |

rank | Wed Mar 18 23:49:03 2020 2020 demographics show Italy has an older population (there is a decent sized jump in Italy's median age in 2020 while Germany actually decreases). However, what I meant (though it wasn't clear) is that it appears there are far more elderly infected in Italy than in Germany. |

rank | Wed Mar 18 23:59:46 2020 http://www...stribution-by-age-group-italy/ In Italy near 75% seem to be over 50. I dont have figures for Germany. But that link does seem to show wraths point that it has hit the elderly in Italy hard. I dont know the testing prerequisites are though. Perhaps the older people are being tested at different rates...i just lack the data. |
