Maybe most are aware, but I wasn't until today. If the segments haven't been viewed I suggest the time be taken. The exercise took place in October before the pandemic we are experiencing at the present.

I mean. Bill Gates has a Ted Talk about it. Both W. Bush and Obama successfully dealt with Pandemics. We had 2 months of warning and successful strategies seen in South Korea and Taiwan and Hong Kong. Even Germany has done well so far.

The blame all lies with the president and the evangelical nutters he appointed or the people he fired for no reason other than the fact he's an idiot.

Abstract

During the past two decades, three zoonotic coronaviruses have been identified as the cause of large-scale disease outbreaks–Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), and Swine Acute Diarrhea Syndrome (SADS). SARS and MERS emerged in 2003 and 2012, respectively, and caused a worldwide pandemic that claimed thousands of human lives, while SADS struck the swine industry in 2017. They have common characteristics, such as they are all highly pathogenic to humans or livestock, their agents originated from bats, and two of them originated in China. Thus, it is highly likely that future SARS- or MERS-like coronavirus outbreaks **will originate from bats, and there is an increased probability that this will occur in China**. Therefore, the investigation of bat coronaviruses becomes an urgent issue for the detection of early warning signs, which in turn minimizes the impact of such future outbreaks in China. The purpose of the review is to summarize the current knowledge on viral diversity, reservoir hosts, and the geographical distributions of bat coronaviruses in China, and eventually we aim to predict virus hotspots and their cross-species transmission potential.

My thread is on life support...

I'll most likely let it die after this post.

Nim, since you linked a article on bats.

Most bats are a protected species under federal law in the US because they pollinate over 700 plants, some of which we use for food and medicine. It's a dilemma. Can we call them a frieneme? No war as of yet.

Bats/mosquitoes

Type O blood are more than universal donors. They're also “tastier” to mosquitoes and bats love them. In fact, according to a study, certain species of the insect landed on the skin of people with Type O blood almost twice as often as they did on the skin of those with Type A.

My wife is a natural mosquito repellent and it seems to be true. They pester the hell out of her and she wonders why I'm not bothered by them nearly as much. I just tell her it is because she is a sweet treat.

Blaming is toxic so I avoid.

I have blood typo 0- and as long as there is at least one other person near me, I pretty much never get bit by musquitoes.

I thought blood type having anything to do with it was a myth. I've heard several explanations over the years ranging from sweat to bacteria on your skin. Dunno which one's right or if we even really know... probably a combination of several factors.

Nekran:

Some people secrete sugars related to their blood type, and the study published in the July 2004 Journal of Medical Entomology divided the test subjects into groups according to whether they were secreters.

Those who were secreters in blood group O averaged 83.3% mosquito landing rates, while those who were secreters in blood group A averaged only 46.5% landing rates.

I can confirm as someone with blood type O, I am a mosquito magnet.

For the beer drinkers.

Beer consumption increases human attractiveness to malaria mosquitoes.

Hey. Check out those two other articles i posted in that thread about diseases getting stolen to Wuhan China by 1) a Harvard professor and 2) a lady who ran the only Level 4 containment laboratory in Canada. Some really sketchy stuff going on here.

I think I already did read articles about those two, but I'll check out tomorrow. The world isn't lacking in sketchy stuff.

Billah:
I had read news articles on your other posts in that thread.

It's like we are space bacteria on a planetary sphere hanging around waiting, unknowingly, to be purchased and given to a pet creature, then immediately scattered into the imaginary infinity poisoning everything that ever was.

Twilight Zone sequel on the horizon coming to you from one of jergul's other universes.

Surely we are more viral than so? At least bacteria have the dignity and integrity of single-celled self.

Some RNA, fat and protein is more how humanity rolls.

Imaginary/fictional, surely you are familiar with the Twilight Zone. That post was not intended to be of a technical nature. :(

Of course. Brilliant tv show. Black Mirror is merely a pale reflection so to speak.

There are Universes in those black mirrors, Arcades of Fires.

You are poking fun of yourself in another Universe. Reflection from a turned on screen.

jergul:
I'll quit digging at you about universes and be a kinder and gentler universe.

I rationalize the world differently, go figure.

I see in my black mirror one universe with approximately 8.7 billion universes within it appearing and disappearing constantly.

A magnified difference.

Interpretation depends on the Universe that is not of duplicate mind.
