Yeah, but if poor black people have a party, they only infect other poor black people inside a run-down ghetto.

It's not like any of you give a fuck about their lives.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/23/us/coronavirus-westport-connecticut-party-zero.html

Party Zero: How a Soirée in Connecticut Became a ‘Super Spreader’
About 50 people gathered this month for a party in the upscale suburb of Westport, then scattered across the region and the world, taking the coronavirus with them.

"The Westport soirée — Party Zero in southwestern Connecticut and beyond — is a story of how, in the Gilded Age of money, social connectedness and air travel, a pandemic has spread at lightning speed. The partygoers — more than half of whom are now infected — left that evening for Johannesburg, New York City and other parts of Connecticut and the United States, all seeding infections on the way."

But when rich, white people have a party, they infect half the fucking world.

I like how we're at the point where we're praising the police for cracking down on privaye parties of adult citizens that exceed an arbitrary state-sanctioned maximum person limit. Apparently rights of free association go straight out the window whenever we're faced with a virus that has killed a whopping 0.0006% of Americans to date.

We are all authoritarians now, I guess.

"Apparently rights of free association go straight out the window whenever we're faced with a virus"

States have always had the right to enforce stricter, normally unconstitutional rules in cases like a plague or outbreak. This isn't new and it's been upheld on multiple occasions.

Rugian, I'm all for freedom up until it interferes with another's, this meets that criteria.

Just as in war time we cede extra authority to the powers that be.

Death is about as unfree as it gets.

Perhaps, and bear with me, there are limits to individual freedom and responsibility. There are forces we have to deal with, that carry consequences beyond our ability to scale. Things that can only be dealt with at a system level, lest it wipes the system clean.

This isn’t a clash of principles. Existential threats > everything else.

Obaminated's post is very typical of cuckservatives.

"Haha, look at all the dumb (insert out-group here). They are doing something that barely affects me but at least makes me feel superior."

But when a bunch of rich white criminals steal billions and trillions of dollars from you blind...

"Muh Free Markets! Hillary's Emails! Both Sides are the same!"

It's so easy for the rich to divide and conquer everyone else. Especially when they have different skin tones.

"Historian Alfred W. Crosby stated in 2003 that the flu originated in Kansas,[21] and popular author John M. Barry described a January 1918 outbreak in Haskell County, Kansas, as the point of origin in his 2004 article.[11]"

I see. So now you guys are on board with the whole "you have no civil liberties if you are dead" Cornyn/Roberts school of thought. Or to use the variant Lindsey Graham version, "free speech is a great idea, but we're in a war."

Would-be authoritarians have been trying to use national emergencies as a pretext to strip Americans of their fundamental rights since I was a teenager. It has had the effect over the years of making me especially jealous of the ones they haven't succeeded in taking yet.

I don't give a shit if I have a minuscule chance of dying from some vague threat, it's not worth surrendering our liberties over.

Every issue involves finding an appropriate balance between freedom and security. With the Chinese virus though, that balance has been completely cast aside, with security being absolutely paramount and freedoms counting for naught. Never mind if the current state reaction of COVID-19 is wildly out of proportion to the actual threat or not.

As long as we're allowing the government to assume near-total control over our lives over this virus, what other things should they do this for? International terrorism? Violent crime sprees? The annual flu season? Automobile-related deaths? Gun rights? Drugs? Behaviors that increase the likelihood of cardiovascular disease or cancer?

This is a slippery slope and you fuckers are acting like it's a fun slide.

Rugian:

It's not about your miniscule chance of death, it's about your chance of spreading a disease that could kills thousands.

There is an entire cluster of deaths in South Korea, with thousands of people dead, that can be traced to one woman that broke curfew. She's fine by the way.

So if you want to go liberty and personal responsibility, that needs to be matched by unlimited personal liability for any disease you may spread through reckless behaviour I think.

This is the way. Freedom and responsiblity.

Rugian, I probably habe a low chance of dying, but I love my meemaw and ive always had a Fascist streak in dire times.

I mean I get the slippery slope, but gatherings of people are at no risk of being permanent.

Yes it so funny.

Nigga please! People like you who can not , CAN NOT change their game plan aka ”muh freedumb” like a broken record, are on a fast track to win a Darwin award, sooner or later.

Noone really knows how bad Coronas is or how bad it will get (notwithstanding your expertise in epidimiology), will it mutate? And when I don’t know I am conservative, I apply cautionary principles. I called this rehearsal initially, but it is more than a rehearsal, we are making up much of the game plan, for whatever else that is in store. And we found a fatal flaw in our response to a pandemic. The Muh freedom crowd who will see a deep state conspiracy in containing a virus.

I am in favor of what seb wrote, ok you can have your freedom, but if breaking contagion ordinance we will bring you to trial for attempted man slaughter. Deal?

We really shouldn't be a one person planet either, one way or another we will probably fuck this one up.

Space radiation. Frozen procreation stuff is the best solution even if you want a human crew. But a human crew is a needless complication that increases the cost and chances of catastrophic mission failure.

The only reason to want it is because its not really a life boat strategy for humanity, its a life boat strategy for specific individuals of humanity.

You want the life boats to go far, far away. In both time and space.

The surest way to fuck "this" up is by creating competing planets within punching distance of each other.

So, do you want adult elephants and whales on this space mission of yours to ensure biodiversity?

Or is embryonic transport starting to compute for you now?
